About this listen
Nestled in the Pennsylvania countryside, Florence University frames an idyllic college world, complete with cute coeds and handsome jocks - not to mention plenty of booze and sex with virtually no responsibility. For three seniors approaching graduation, the vagaries of life have rarely been so terrifying.
Film buff Ian is at a loss as to what to do with the rest of his life - or what to do about the football player he has been fantasizing about. Haile is an accomplished classical musician, a veteran violinist who is taking a break from touring to finish her education, explore her dream of becoming a singer-songwriter, and escape her controlling mother. Casey is the handsome football star whose seemingly perfect existence masks an unsatisfactory love life and an inexplicable restlessness for something…more.
Drawn together by their struggles for identity, the three students form a fateful friendship that will change the courses of their lives forever. Sexy, fast paced, and layered with intimate insight about life’s most formative years, The Fall is a compelling coming-of-age story about what happens when we are forced to confront who we are and who we want to become.

Story
I’ve been listening to my father sing for my whole life. I carry him in my pocket on my MP3 player. It’s just that we’ve never met face to face. My mother would never tell me how I came to be, or why my rock star father and I have never met. I thought it was her only secret. I was wrong. When she dies, he finally appears. Suddenly I have a first-class ticket into my father’s exclusive world. A world I don’t want any part of - not at this cost. Only three things keep me going: my a cappella singing group, a swoony blue-eyed boy named Jake, and the burning questions in my soul.

As a sorority pledge, there are commandments that Katie Vickery must live by. One: Thou shalt not show up for the party without a date. Two: The guy shall be an athlete, preferably an upperclassman. Unfortunately, Katie just broke up with her jerkface football player boyfriend. Even worse, her last encounter with him resulted in utter humiliation. She'd rather hide under the bed than attend a party where he'll be. Yet staying home would mean letting him win.

At the University of North Carolina, Ronny's made some friends, kept his secrets, survived dorm life, and protected his heart. Until he can't. Ben is in some ways Ronny's opposite; he's big and solid where Ronny is small and slight. Ben's at UNC on a football scholarship. Confident, with that easy jock swagger and an explosive temper always simmering. He has a steady stream of girlfriends. Ben's aware of the overwhelming effect he has on Ronny. Story
During his years in a neural-health facility, Pat Peoples has formulated a theory about silver linings. He believes that his life is a movie produced by God, that his mission is to become physically fit and emotionally supportive, and that if he succeeds, his happy ending will be the return of his estranged wife, Nikki. When Pat goes to live with his parents, everything seems changed: no one will talk to him about Nikki, and his new therapist seems to be recommending adultery as a form of therapy.

Story
Norris is clever, cynical, and quite possibly too smart for his own good. A Black French Canadian, he knows from watching American sitcoms that those three things don’t bode well when you are moving to Texas. Plunked into a new high school, Norris finds himself cataloging everyone he meets: the Cheerleaders, the Jocks, the Loners, and even the Manic Pixie Dream Girl. Making a ton of friends has never been a priority for him, and this way he can at least amuse himself until it’s time to go back to Canada, where he belongs. Yet those labels soon become actual people to Norris....

Story
Liam "Mr. Popular" Carter will always be the closest thing to the "walking plague" in my eyes. His cockiness seeps through his every move, and no matter how many state championships he wins with the basketball team, he will forever be a "loss" to me. Because he's my older brother's best friend, I'm forced to tolerate him, and he's forced to tolerate me. In fact, unless my brother is around, we happily ignore each other every chance we get. It wasn't always this way, though....

RAN OUT OF STORY
Good story premise but then just ended. Wast e of money. So many books are now grossly overhyped. Rarely do the ones, like this, that show in search after search, amount to anything but rubbish.

Another mistake
What would have made The Fall better?
A better classification would have prevented me from buying this audiobook. It is not a gay romance. At least in the first hour (four chapters) there is no mention of anyone being gay. I can see the setup coming, but there are several stories going on here and the gay part is not central so far. This book is 8 and a half hours long, I gave it an hour and all I heard were back stories. It might be a good listen if you like very verbose story telling, but I found it tedious.
What could Ryan Quinn have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I am sure it is a good book for some, but I expected more of a gay theme from a book listed in the gay and lesbian section.
