H. P. Lovecraft
The hills of Western Massachusetts contain dark and terrible secrets. Strange families keep to themselves and practice rites of ancient and unspeakable black magic. These dreadful and unholy rituals give birth to a monstrosity beyond imagination, a monstrosity that threatens mankind itself! Can a brave handful of intrepid scholars hope to confront the otherwordly destruction of “The Dunwich Horror”?
H.P. Lovecraft's classic tale is dramatized and brought to life in the style of a 1930s radio drama, complete with a large cast of actors, original music, and thrilling sound effects.

The fictious town of Dunwich is in an isolated part of Massachusetts. Wilbur Whateley was born under suspicious circumstance, but it is his appearance that brings fear into the villagers. He has albino coloring, and he dons a vile odor. His grandfather, Old Whateley, is known as a sorcerer of witchcraft.
The townsfolk become up in arms when their cattle begin disappearing. The flurry with which the local whippoorwills began singing added to the angst. Furthermore, the Whateley farmhouse is frequently modified.
Wilbur attempts to secure a copy of the “Necronomicon” (the Book of the Dead, a fictional textbook of magic) when the librarian realizes he has wicked intentions. Trouble ensues. What is in the Whateley farmhouse? Why are the cattle missing? What is that noxious smell and tarry resin? And all the Whippoorwill noise! What is going on???
This was a fun audio listen, which includes the commercials which would have aired at the time. It was hilarious to listen to radio ads promoting cigarettes as “aiding in digestion”. I was thoroughly entertained for an hour and 14 minutes!! Oh bonus: According to American folklore, if you hear a whippoorwill sing near your home, it is a sign of an impending death. Others believed it was an omen that bad luck would befall you in the near future…..the mystery of the villager interest in the whippoorwills solved!
Entertaining and fun!
