About this listen

The day was as hot as the pond was inviting. It's not as if anyone in Little Huffington was going to happen upon a secluded vale on the Duke of Greycliffe's lands. And Venus Collingswood didn't want to get her shift all wet. It was the perfect setting in which to plan her lovely bookworm of a sister's betrothal to the mysterious new duke arriving seven days hence. If only she had a suitable accomplice....

Andrew Valentine, Duke of Greycliffe, never thought arriving at his own household a week early would cause so much trouble. The housekeeper thinks he's his own cousin. Actually, the chance to not be the duke for a while is a pleasant opportunity indeed. It might even help him interrogate the delectable little nymph he's discovered swimming in his pond - if he can manage to get a word in edgewise.

Enjoyable short listen

This is my first time with this author and this narrator. I liked the meet cute and setup of this story. I found that I did feel the chemistry and understood the attraction between the main couple, altho it is quite short as a story and the time they were together before the end of the story. The FMC is girlish, but I suspect that is not farfetched for the times and the character. The narrator has a somewhat husky voice that lends it's self very well for the male characters. She strived to give each character their own voice, and I admire that, altho some were so obvious that it drew me out of the story. i.e. the old gossipy woman. All in all this is a 3 to 3.5, I will give this series a try based on this short story:)

Perfect Meet Cute

The Duchess of Love (A Prequel) by Sally MacKenzie (Audiobook)
Narrated by: Abby Craden
Series: Duchess of Love book 0.5

4 Stars - This was a super short, sweet story. Venus and Drew had a wonderfully fun “meet-cute”, along with great chemistry. The writing was easy and humourous, which makes me hope the rest of the series will be equally as good. The summary for this story did a good job in drawing me in.

The narrator did a fine job. Had a variety of voices for characters. I would listen to her again.

One of my favorite stories!

This is a great lead in to the entire series. I just wish it could be longer because it is so sweet, funny, and nicely narrated. The characters, both protagonists and antagonists are enjoyable both for their quirkiness, snootiness, and precociousness.
This is the third time....? I have listened to it. :)

Story was a cute novella

Story was a typical novella. A little quick but as to be expected.

However the narration was painful. I wasn’t sure if the characters were English, Scottish, Indian or American as the voice narrator switched between each accent during the dialogue. Was not surprised when I looked her up and she’s American.

THE DUCHESS OF LOVE by Sally Mackenzie

This was a good little novella and a prequel to the "Duchess of Love" series. I loved the narrator (Abby Craden) who did a fantastic job with not only all the voices (though some were admittedly a bit breathy) but made it easy to distinguish who was talking at any given time too. Her emotions were also spot on and there were no really long unnecessary pauses either, although I read it at a speed of 1.15... The story itself was fun and charming and made me laugh and smile. There was one short sex scene at the end and the ending was pretty abrupt but none of this took away from my enjoyment of it and I look forward the listening to the first novel in this series about Venus and Drew's son... 😊

Cute story!

I thought this was a cute story. But felt that I missed the big strong attraction between the leads. Other than physical, I thought the girl was very immature. But I did enjoy it. Didn’t like the narrator’s male voice, but it didn’t ruin it for me, have heard worse.

Cute story

I really enjoyed Sally MacKenzie's "Naked" series and was looking forward to this new one. This is a cute "pre" story to start the series. I really enjoyed the Abby Craden as the narrator.
