About this listen

A terrifying secret. A shocking discovery has been made deep within Rome's ancient catacombs. One that the Vatican is determined must never be made public - for the sake of all mankind. A deadly conspiracy. But there are others who want to keep the truth hidden for far more sinister reasons, others who believe that not only are the church and the faith of a billion at threat, but life as we know it is about to be destroyed - forever. And only one woman - a young Italian nun - can save us.... The nightmare is about to begin.

Great story and loved the narrator

Unlike others, I thought that the Maria Elena Infantino's non-native pronunciations and glitches in emphasis were charming and lent authenticity to a story that takes place across time and cultures. Since so much of the story is set in Italy, her genuine Italian accent was just perfect and kept me focused in time and place. It felt like true story-telling. I look forward to finding more by Ms. Infantino.

Narrator ruined the book

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The narrator mispronounced so many word it was almost funny.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

plot was interesting.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Maria Elena Infantino?

I don't care. Anyone would have been better.

Could you see The Devil Will Come being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

no

Narrator--Mixed Review

What didn’t you like about Maria Elena Infantino’s performance?

While the accent was appropos and the voices were good, Maria Elena Infantino should have been coached on pronunciation and awkward sentence timing. Audio editing?!?!

Any additional comments?

Having just finished "The Tenth Chamber", I liked the common themes and cross-story references--interesting but in no way necessary to understanding or appreciating the story.

Another Cooper Gem

I am just loving these Glenn Cooper books! This one the narrator was a little off. Emphasizing a lot of the wrong words. Might be ESL as she had excellent European accents. Overall though, definitely recommend.

good plot, horrible narrator

Let me begin by saying that I was tempted to discard the book, the narrator was so terrible., She had too many falsetto male voices and it is very hard to listen to the book. The story line was good, in fact very good, but you are constantly distracted by the readers lack of knowledge of the English language. Her stops and starts in the wrong places suggest that English is definitely NOT her first language and takes a good deal of enjoyment from the flow of the story line.

Great story, horrible narration

Would you be willing to try another one of Maria Elena Infantino’s performances?

No, she often mispronounces words in a very off putting way, sometimes even effecting comprehension of the story. He accents often sound robotic.

Bad pronunciation

Would you consider the audio edition of The Devil Will Come to be better than the print version?

The narrator is obviously not American as many words are mispronounced. The story is OK., but not up to the quality of his other books.

Would you be willing to try another one of Maria Elena Infantino’s performances?

No

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Interesting

Would you listen to The Devil Will Come again? Why?

I don't think so

What other book might you compare The Devil Will Come to and why?

I can't

What didn’t you like about Maria Elena Infantino’s performance?

There are changes of action in the book (one senario to another) and the narrator never took a pause to indicate the change. It became very conveluted at times.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No
