About this listen

A construction project beneath the National Mall reveals a dark secret dating back to the Civil War, something buried by a cabal of scientists, led by Alexander Graham Bell, who helped found the Smithsonian Institution. It is a cache of bones, preserved in amber, protecting a wonder like no other, the very secret of life after death. But such a prize is guarded by a horror out of the ancient past, a horror that still lives in the marrow of those bones - and is now free again.

From a crystalline lab atop Mount Fuji to an island off of Hawaii teeming with what's been called the "dark matter of life", Sigma Force must solve a mystery going back eons, to when life first took root on this planet. But the menace is spreading, changing, growing, adapting, outwitting every attempt to stop it. It means to retake a world it once ruled.

For Sigma Force to stop it, Commander Grayson Pierce will have to do the unthinkable: team up with Sigma's greatest enemy - the newly resurrected Guild - even it if means sacrificing one of their own.

another amazing masterpiece by Rollins yet again he has outdone himself. my only complaint is how short it was. all of his stories end much too soon.

An old enemy with a new face....

If you could sum up The Demon Crown in three words, what would they be?

Truly. Awesome. Read

What other book might you compare The Demon Crown to and why?

I have long been a fan of the Sigma Force series and this book definitely meets my lofty standards.

Which scene was your favorite?

Rollins has been phasing out the Guild storyline for awhile now but another enemy has been groomed in its place. Plus, the relationship between Sashon and Gray reaches a crescendo. I can't wait until the next book comes out.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

One of the reasons the Sigma Series has remained one of my favorites over the years is because Rollins has a talent for perfectly blending personal story lines in with the action and scientific ones, while still making it believable. This book is no exception. Sashon and Gray's love affair will yield a surprise that injects a deep emotional charge into the storyline that hasn't been there before...I really haven't been that moved since Monk was lost and found. I was almost in tears at the end.

Any additional comments?

My lone complaint, and its not much of one, is that I didn't need the point of view of an insect. Borderline "Really???"

Fast paced adventure

Absolutely love this author and series. If you are looking for a fast paced adventure this book is for you. I appreciate the fact the author takes time at the end to separate fact from fiction. Fact is truly more fascinating and weird than fiction sometimes.

His best yet

James Rollins SIGMA books are my favorite genre to listen on Audio books. Christopher Baskous is the perfect narrator adding to the excitement and intrigue of the story. The culprit is a prehistoric wasp buried in amber. As always Rollins interweaves fact with fiction. He introduces us to the history of the founding of the Smithsonian Institution and The man for which it is named. The intrigue also involves Alexander Graham Bell. Two members of Sigma Force are targeted by an enemy who wants to return his country into control of the world. As always there is a scientific basis for the story, adventure, life and death action and the interaction of the wonderful members is Sigma Force. Thank you for another enjoyable listen

Great Story, Not so Great Narration

I love James Rollins and the level of technical and historical information he weaves into his action packed stories. The narrator however has an odd articulation that makes the recording very difficult to listen to. Great voice, but very unnatural cadence and emphasis patterns in his reading. If he would correct that and skip or correct the non-English accents, he would be great.
