About this listen
The Darkness is coming.
When it strikes, Volka, Carl, 6T9, and Sundancer will have to join forces with an unlikely ally to learn the key to defeating it. An ally who is cold, cunning, and despises all of them - Alexis, Captain Darmadi's wife.
If Volka and Carl can manage not to kill her, 6T9 can refrain from sleeping with her, and Sundancer can keep them all from being blown up, humanity may have some hope.
Strap in! It's bound to be a bumpy ride.
The Defiant takes place in the Archangel Project universe.

Story
Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

Story
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

Story
From the Audie-nominated narrator of The Martian. In eleven years' time, a million members of an alien race will arrive at Earth. Years before they enter orbit, their approach will be announced by the flare of a thousand flames in the sky, their ships' huge engines burning hard to slow them from the vast speeds needed to cross interstellar space. These foreboding lights will shine in our night sky like new stars, getting ever brighter until they outshine even the sun, casting ominous shadows and banishing the night until they suddenly blink out.

Story
In the 25th century, humans have conquered space. The advent of faster-than-light travel has opened up hundreds of habitable planets for colonization, and humans have exploited the virtually limitless space and resources for hundreds of years with impunity. So complacent have they become with the overabundance that armed conflict is a thing of the past, and their machines of war are obsolete and decrepit. What would happen if they were suddenly threatened by a terrifying new enemy?

But when an explosion rocks the tower and sends everyone into a panic, Magnus and his asset find themselves cut off from the rest of the team. Worse still, a dying alien chieftain gives them a priceless drive of intel, marking them for death. The mission has officially changed. Spectacular SciFi plus! intelligence w/heart
this is my second series from C Gockel, and her writing is just fantastic! I sight read the I Bring the Fire series which is more fantasy with some technology based on the Norse gods and absolutely loved that series, and am enjoying the novellas in that universe that have followed.
because I equally enjoy SciFi, I started the Archangel Project series immediately after! I love sci-fi and fantasy and I'm not much into romance but she mixes just enough in there to really keep the relationships of all the characters real and very very interesting. I can't wait for the next one to be available in audio!
both series have phenomenal casts of characters that will stick with you for a long time!
