About this listen

She’s a high-class escort. He’s a heartbroken client. Falling in love was never in the contract....

Grad student River Roberts is at the head of her class. But outside of the lecture hall, she’s struggling to make ends meet. Refusing to let her diploma slip through her fingers, she joins a secret student society that caters to the wealthy alumni’s deepest desires. But when she starts to fall for a handsome client, she realizes she never factored in the price her heart would pay.

After his wife’s death, Jonathan Ferris fills his waking hours with high-powered acquisitions and commodity trading. But no amount of cold hard cash can keep him warm at night. Consumed by loneliness, he turns to his alma mater’s escort service. But his passionate encounters with a co-ed who’s as smart as she is sexy make him wonder if there’s something more between them than money.

With graduation fast approaching, can River and Jonathan see past the price tag and open their hearts to true love?

Dean's List Review

Plot a little unorthodox, but good writing and narration.

Sex and substance make for great story

Did Aria Abienta do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

I found Aria Abienta's vocal style to lack complexity. Her voice had the same casual tone, pace and inflection throughout the story so I did not get a sense of River's emotional reaction and responses. There is no sense of desperation or passion. Additionally, there was no differentiation between characters.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I enjoy erotic romance but many stories lack a strong plot and/or compelling characters so I'm often skeptical about new authors. Kelly Collins' story was a pleasant surprise. Although some of the elements are predictable, she does an excellent job blending emotional conflict, secondary characters, relationship dynamics, etc. for an emotionally satisfying story.

The Dean's List isn't a quickly resolved story about a college student turned escort for hire who finds happy ever after in the arms of a billionaire. There are internal and external forces complicating things between River and her lover.

My only complaint is that Collins seemed to overwork the setup. She goes into great detail, often repeatedly, to establish River's entry into the secret society. For example, one scene documents River's frontal and rear wax job prior to meeting with clients. This slowed the story at times, making me want to fast forward to the "important' stuff.

All in all, a well-crafted story that exceeded expectations.

Enticing Story of Sexy Co-Eds, Lust and Love

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely! This has by far been one of my favorite books in this genre... I loved the back and forth meeting of the minds... and bodies... between the main character, River and Jonathan - the oh-so-delectable and emotionally unavailable scholar chosen to be her "mentor". I also found River's story so engaging - coming from such a conservative background to discovering a whole new side of herself, and reveling in it.

What did you like best about this story?

I was so intrigued by the idea of this secret society these people created where only the most attractive, and smart people are paired with their equals in an effort to create not only intense sexual situations, but also a layer of networking. I had some sexy experiences back in my college days, but none as enticing as this...or as well-paid for that matter! :)

What about Aria Abienta’s performance did you like?

Her voice is like laying in freshly-washed, 1500 count, Egyptian cotton sheets... Every word, every sigh... the way she describes each detail of the story elevated the already great writing. I listened to the entire book, and was actually sad when it ended... Aria is like the sexiest, gentle guide taking you on a journey of self-discovery and lust in this book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did have to break it up due to the length, but every time I had to walk away, I couldn't wait to come back to it and see what happened next.

Any additional comments?

I thought it was extremely well written, and I loved the narrator. I can't wait to download other books by Aria Abienta... So excited to have discovered her. And bravo to Kelly Collins for keeping me entertained for 8+ hours with such riveting characters and an exciting story!

So Good I listened in ONE Setting!

What made the experience of listening to The Dean's List the most enjoyable?

There were many things that made this one of the best books I have ever listened too, but the best was the story itself. I listen to many books in the same genre and this one was so well written as well as funny I could push pause!

What other book might you compare The Dean's List to and why?

I guess that I did find myself comparing it to 50 Shades, which was funny because the author referred to it also. This one was much better!

What about Aria Abienta’s performance did you like?

The narration is amazing! Tone and pitch were on in every instance. there was real feeling and I could tell that Aria enjoyed the book as well.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Making the Dean's List is not as simple as making the grade.

Great Listen!

This was a nice surprise. From the cover, I though it was going to be light on the story and heavy on the heat factor, but this was actually a very good, well-written, full-length novel with no cliffhanger (YES!!) with likable characters. Oh yeah, it was hot, but the sexy times were not the main focus. I wasn't sure I was going to like either the H or the h, but they totally grew on me. I ended up really liking them, as well as the supporting characters, and loving this book! I look forward to more from this author.

Aria Abienta has good male and female voices, inflection and the right use of emotion. I had no issues with being distracted by mispronunciations and thought that overall she did a good job. I received this audiobook in exchange for an unbiased review.
