About this listen

A new age dawns in the kingdom of Eileanan, but not without resistance. Now the Righ, Lachlan the Winged, overturns his dead brother’s decrees against witchcraft. But 16 years of hatred and superstition have cloaked Eileanan in darkness. And though he has won the power of the Lodestar, Lachlan’s rule is challenged by a mere babe - and a civil war erupts.

The flame-haired twins - Iseult the Scarred Warrior and Isabeau the apprentice-witch - must go their separate ways. Iseult to fight side by side with her husband, Lachlan. Isabeau to the Cursed Towers, to master her powers and to find the family she has never known.

One woman battling for a new reign, one woman learning the old ways, their separate threads will twist and turn into a tale of mayhem, mystery, and magic.

Another amazing book

I have read the paperback version of this book more times than I can count and I have loved this series since I first discovered it. I was so excited to see it is finally coming out on audible. The narrator did a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life and speaking in a clear voice. Although the accent is heavy, it is easily understood and really brings the characters different personalities to life. The voices used make it extremely easy to differentiate between each character. I highly recommend this book. If you love a story of magic and sci fi filled with great accents and a gripping story then this series is for you.

imaginative, riveting, beautiful

I love how Forsyth weaves a beautiful story based on fairy tales, real life/alternate history. The characters show growth and change throughout the series, and portrays peace, love, and embracing differences is strength and a noble cause; that hate not only causes suffering to the hated, but also to one's loved ones and especially to one's self. It does portray zealot crusaders as evil, but my fellow, reasonable Christians should already see this a shameful non-Christlike part of our real history and not be offended from the brief characterizations in this expensive and beautiful series.

Enjoyable series

This is a good addition to the series to further the storyline, plot and interesting character development. The narration is excellent, the burr and such from the accent lend depth to the reading.
It’s a fictional story about witches and other fantastic creatures, I choose to leave the theological fervor of other reviews out, bc it’s a fictional story about witches…

My new favorite series

I’m fully immersed in this fantastical world. I think I actually have to give myself a break before the next book so I don’t swallow the whole series too quickly!!!

For those who love magic, fae of all kinds, world building, character development, and cameos from dragons.... YEP start with the first book of this series and enjoy!

Also a quick note to say: I love when Elle Newlands sings the songs, and I also appreciate how the author made sure the world included as much ethnic diversity of humans as she did other species ♥️

Much more action than in the second book.

Book 3 moved the story along nicely and provided a few nice twists. I am more likely to finish this series after reading this book. The narrator does a good job but often doesn't pause long enough when the story moves to a completely different set of characters within a chapter. Make sure you ken your Scottish terms.
