Publisher's summary

Ex-champion bull-rider-turned-cutting-horse-cowboy Joe Daniels isn't quite sure how he ended up sleeping in a horse trough wearing nothing but his Stetson and cowboy boots. But now he's wide awake, and a citified woman is glaring down at him. His goal? Get rid of her ASAP. The obstacle? Fighting the attraction he feels toward the blond-haired filly with the big, vulnerable eyes.

When out-of-work wedding planner Mariah Callahan learns that her estranged father has left her a rundown ranch in Jubilee, she has no choice but to accept it. Her goal? Redeem her career by planning local weddings. The obstacle? One emotionally wounded, hard-living cowboy who stirs her guilt, her heartstrings, and her long-burned cowgirl roots....

The City Girl wrangles a Stud

Narrator did a great job with narration, has an easy, steady voice for reading both men and women characters. The story on the other hand, had potential but there seemed to be more filler than actual plot, almost like the author had a good book idea, but could only take it so far,so to make it an actual book, put in alot of unnecessary fillers to make the story longer.Thought she could use her idea better and made it more suspenseful and romantic.

loved the story and the narrator

Jubilee, Texas feels like a real place - the characters, the atmosphere, the way a small town's inhabitants know each other's business. I really enjoyed this.

Emotional

The narrator and storyline more yah exceeded my expectations. I loved the true to life loss and the finding of love through friendship and comforting for each other.

Great read.

If you could sum up The Cowboy Takes a Bride in three words, what would they be?

Love this cowboy.

What other book might you compare The Cowboy Takes a Bride to and why?

Cowboy and the Princess

What does C. J. Critt bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Adds character with excellent voice.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Any additional comments?

Lori Wilde is a great novelist. I especially like how sweet, yet hot--clean but real, her romance scene are written. Great plots. I never feel tired of the conflict, like I do in other romance novels. Wilde write well crafted plots and the conflict grows out of real life.

Should have been a short story.

Would you try another book from Lori Wilde and/or C. J. Critt?

I like C. J. Critt's interpretation of the book, and her unusual voice, but I don't think I will ever listen to another book by Lori Wilde. I would be afraid the book was filled with boring, repeated fluff.

What was most disappointing about Lori Wilde’s story?

This plot was so thin it could have been a short story, not even long enough for a novella. If I was reading this book, I would have skipped many parts of it. I am starting to not like the main characters because of their constant dithering about their attraction to each(I haven't finished listening yet, but I am stubborn and will finish because I paid for it). I am ready to scream at Mariah, "Joe is not like your father, he is successful, has money, is settled down, etc." The author keeps restating all of their doubts about each other and uses that as the tension in the book. I should have kept track of how many times she has thought the same thing. Boring! If Ms. Wilde needed to lengthen the story, why not do a better longer flashback about Mariah's time in Chicago. Maybe then she would be more fleshed out and I might have some more sympathy for her.

Which scene was your favorite?

After 2/3 of the book, I would say the opening, hungover cowboy was my favorite scene.

Did The Cowboy Takes a Bride inspire you to do anything?

I will keep to my original plan of listening to mysteries and thrillers from Audible, and READING the romances on my iPad, iPhone. That way, I can skip any of the overly sappy thoughts and sentiments, especially if they are repeated ad nauseum.

Any additional comments?

I think I would have really liked this book if it was a short story.

Hate, hate, hate, the narrator

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

better narration

Would you be willing to try another book from Lori Wilde? Why or why not?

Maybe. The story, what I could stand to listen to, was cute.

How could the performance have been better?

Better inflection. The narrator seemed like she was trying to make this a comedy.

What character would you cut from The Cowboy Takes a Bride?

none

Any additional comments?

no

Was She Paid By The Word?

There is not enough story for a whole book. Maybe if this was seriously abridged (like 3 hours of story total) it would have been ok, but it just felt like the author was paid by the word. This is not an author I would listen to again.

Snore....

I really wanted to like this book but about 3/4 of the way through I had to stop. I could describe everything under the sun in this book except the story. Zero depth. The narrator was just ok, in part to her and in part to very little to work with. Ugh!!! Very disappointed.

Cute Love Story

Typical love story with the typical conflicts between the two main characters but if you're in the mood for one this would be a good one to listen to. It does drag on at times and at times you just want to shake them and tell them to get over it and open their eyes, but at least the love scenes aren't overdone and you do get to know the characters in this small town. Just a nice easy listen.
