About this listen

Marrying your fae prince shouldn’t be this hard.

Hetta’s family now knows Wyn’s true identity, but that doesn’t mean they approve of their relationship. Princes are all very well, but Wyn’s not human - though he’s spent 10 years pretending to be.

With gossip spreading like wildfire, Hetta and Wyn receive a royal summons. The queen of Prydein has heard the rumors of fae intruders, and she's not letting Wyn go until she's satisfied that he and his people aren’t a threat. Convincing her would be a lot easier if someone wasn’t trying to blacken Wyn’s name and if his sister wasn’t trying to kill him.

But mortal politics aren’t the only problem the pair has to face. The Court of Ten Thousand Spires is still without a ruler, and the only way out may be for Wyn to assume the throne himself, meaning he and Hetta can never be together.

The Court of Mortals is book three of the Stariel Quartet.

Great story

This is the third book in the series by A. j. Lancaster titled, “The Court of Mortals’. This is one of the few series where each book has been more interesting than the previous one. It’s a combination of politics, magic, fae and romance. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Love the characters

I was a little disappointed in this installment of the series. I love the characters I love the world that the writer has built I love the narration. Sometimes I feel like Wen is kind of a dud(sorry). I Can’t help but feel like we are far enough along in the story that we should’ve had far more progress in major plot lines. Overall I love this series and I can’t wait to read more

Usually I hate third books on series

These are so well written, I honestly wish AJ would mentor me in writing bc the pace is consistent and perfect, they’re well written, they’re interesting, they’re fun. Then you add on top of it Finty’s amazing narration and these are masterpieces. I’m honestly mad at myself that I didn’t purchase this series earlier and I hope there is much more to come. I cannot get enough of Hetta, Win, and Rake. I love all the characters loads. The only complaint I have is what happened to Phoebe and her other son? They just seem to be absent from this book and I’d like to know more about them.

The Plot Thickens and Thickens Some More!

Review with a hint of spoilers: The third book in the Stariel series doesn’t disappoint! Moving the action to the Queen's court and the city of Meridon, raised the stakes and the tension. Spoiler alert: Star-crossed lovers Wynn and Hetta spend most of the time apart. But when they do reunite it's electric! The sizzling prose is read so beautifully by Finty Williams that it felt like an audio movie.

Our favorite, charming imp of a fae brother Raykon is back and brings his warrior fae twin sister Catsmere – another delight. Unfortunately, Marius increases his level of being annoying. He constantly speaks his thought bubbles out loud which don’t need to be known by the way and adds ammunition to his nomination for “Most Useless Valstar” Award! Ok Lady Sybil is next.

The conclusion to the story’s central mystery is a bit anti-climatic while another is left to hang loose. But how Wynn’s claim to the Ten Thousand Spires land is resolved in a wonderful "didn’t see that coming" fashion. The pregnancy reveal not so much. But that’s what 4th sequels are for and tying up loose ends – like the whereabouts of the High King, Wynn’s mom and older brother Iroquois. Bring it on!

I’m loving this whole series

Great narration! The story is told in fun ways that aren’t too predictable. It’s like a funnier, spicier fantasy Jane Austin novel.
