About this listen

From USA Today bestselling author Judy Corry comes a passion and angst-charged romance about star-crossed best friends and the secrets that threaten to tear them apart.

I'm trying very hard not to be in love with my best friend. After all, we've "been there, done that." Or rather, we dated for three amazing weeks last spring before Scarlett's overprotective dad found out and made her break up with me.

And now that I've left her dad's church, there's no chance for us. I'm considered dangerous—a threat. Though, it's really the secrets I hold that scare Pastor Caldwell the most.

As long as I don't talk about why I left The Fold, her dad won't transfer Scarlett from our private boarding school before graduation.

But when Scarlett is set up with a college guy from their church, I know waiting on the sidelines is no longer an option. I need to break out of the friend zone. Fast.

If only doing that didn't require telling her the secret I've been keeping for six months.

Because when Scarlett discovers the truth, I might just lose her forever.

I absolutely loved this one!

I read this book when it first came out and have been anxiously awaiting the audiobook version. I ended up binging it in the last 24 hours. There is so much emotion and angst in this one and those kisses are 🔥. Soooo good!

very religious

This was a great story and worth the listen. It did have a lot of religious undertones and things but other than that it was a great story.

so much religion and gaslighting

I wouldnt really call this a romance novel there was so much talk about religion and characters being gaslight by the church. I love the other books so much but I could barely get through this one. I'm all for character having different point of views but this was almost unbearable.

Not a romance book…

This isn’t a romance book. It’s a spiritual deconstruction book with a salt bae sprinkle of romance. I really wanted to get through it but it was exhausting trying to get past the unnecessarily descriptive religious stuff. Not at all on theme with the other books which is what I got the book for.

So Much Church Hate

I LOVE Judy Cory's books normally but this book was soooo bogged down with church hate I could hardly read it. Never of course named a specific church but 75% of the storyline is the main character coming to decide to leave his church and belief system. It was exhausting to listen to.

I just wanted a rom com like Judy Cory normally delivers.

The low key hate if the “unnamed religion”

I am absolutely OBSESSED, with the other books in this series. They are clean and cute romance novels without all of the graphic sex and smutty language. The teens have very tasteful, yet passionate relationships. I totally love that about this particular series. However, this one completely missed the mark. For those who know; they know, that she is talking about a very “certain” religion. I sincerely feel that if you are going to gaslight and bash a religion that you need to definitely make sure you do your research thoroughly, and get all of the factual information that you can about it before you write such hatefulness about that organization. With all the hate that is going on around in the world today, I don’t think you’re very fair to try to deconstruct a religion you obviously truly know nothing about . The fact that you put, very hateful and untrue aspects of this religion in your book leaves me to question your humanity. There’s just to much division in the world for this sort of stuff to be out here adding unnecessary fuel to the fire of hate and injustice that people have to endure because of the religious they chose to follow. Many people; including elderly ones and children have actually been imprisoned or persecuted within an inch of their life because they choose to follow this religion that you have inaccurately“low key” based your characters around. At the end of the day; NO religion is perfect because they comprised of imperfect people. But if we all love and worship God, then we are all his children, and we all deserve to be treated equally and fairly no matter the religion or cultural background. To have the main characters so at odds that they can’t see past the differences of religion was just a bit too much for me. I haven’t made it to the last book yet because, I have not even finished this one. In all honesty, I don’t think I’m going to either. I think I’m just going to skip past this one, and go on to the last book and hopefully it is as good as the first books in this series.
