About this listen

An impossible journey. A spoiled rich kid. It's a recipe for disaster.

Hale Firena has everything - looks, money, power, more girls than he knows what to do with. But in one night, everything changes, as a bloody coup turns Hale into a penniless refugee on the run for his life.

Hale's not cut out for real life - the thought of holding down a real job is almost more horrible than the pirates and bandits chasing him. Is Hale's swagger enough to see him to safety, or has his luck truly run out?

Hear the story of Hale Firena before he joined the Confectioner's Guild in this Confectioner Chronicles prequel novella.

The Confectioner's Exile is a young adult fantasy mystery perfect for fans of Maria Snyder, Erika Johansen, and Gail Carriger.

Intriguing

I enjoyed getting to see Hale's past. It was a bit heartbreaking but gives perspective about his character. It leads up to Hale entering the the Guild.

Fun prequel

It was so great to get to hear Hale’s backstory. I enjoyed the glimpse into some other locations and cultures in the Confectioner’s world. There was lots of action and some interesting emotional elements, as well.

Hale's story

This short story helps us get a better idea of what Hale is really like and why he acts the way he does. I enjoyed the interactions between the characters and the adventures they experienced along the way. I was sad when his brother was killed by the raiders and I cheered when he won back his mom with his luck. It explains why he was fit for the confectioners guild using his luck to infuse into the treats. I hope we get to see some of the other characters again in future books. I really enjoyed the narration, she did a great job bringing the characters to life.

fantastic

Love love loved this! I was so bummed it wasn't longer, though I knew it wasnt a full length novel. I love Hale to pieces. It was fun to have it from his POV. It's especially funny being in his head. And I enjoyed getting to know about his past. If you like Hale you'll love The Confectioners Exile. I read it after book 2, but I think it'd be best after book 1, which is what Luana intended. Could be read at any point and still enjoyed though.
As usual, Ms Navarro did a bang up job! She's wonderful.

Couple Favorite Lines:
"Yeah, you eery old corpse"

"You dont look so good.."
"You don't look like a trunk of coin yourself."

Great Addition to the Series

The Confectioner's Exile is a fun excursion in The Confectioner Chronicles.
I enjoyed listening to the audio version of Hale's adventure to the Guild. Well narrated, I was invested in Hale's story even though I knew what would happen eventually. In fact, it gives a lot more insight into the character and enjoyed getting to know him better.
If you enjoyed the first book, you can't skip this one!

I received a copy from the author, but all opinions are my own.

Hale's Backstory

I listened to this one after listening to the first book in the series which for me made it even better since I loved seeing where Hale came from and how he became who he is now. He was a spoiled womanizing brat with the best luck ever when it came to gambling. Though he lost everything when a coup happened and his father was murdered. He and his brother and mother had to fly for their lives and nothing went well. It seemed as if it might be impossible for Hale and his family to get out of the city to a new life. I loved getting to see Hale change and learn about what he might want to do besides being a rich entitled man. Hale was forced to change his ideas when the real world smacked him in the face. This has a lot of adventure which I loved and we got to see more of this amazing world.

Fascinating backstory

This quick listen paints a very fascinating backstory for the character of Hale, and how he came to find himself at the Confectioner’s Guild. There are all the same notes of pomp and who that we see in the first full book of the series, but it paints a much deeper picture of some of the things he’s endured that maybe he covers up a bit with his antics. All in all, a good story that I’m sure will come more into play for the future books.

I received this audiobook free in exchange for my fair and honest review.

Hale’s POV

This story is the prequel to the Confectioner’s Guild and it follows Wren’s friend, Hale.
Hale’s story was very intense!! I loved how we got to learn more about him when he was younger. See him through another POV, hoe one night everything was ripped from him and he had to escape to survive. It was fun to watch his character evolve throughout the story. See how he went through loss, maturity, regrets, and grieving.
The narrator did a fabulous job telling the story and portraying all the different characters. It certainly felt like I was there alongside Hale.

A fun sequel

This was a fun sequel. It’s very unique and creative. Definitely want to read or listen to book one first, because that storyline helps a lot with the second book. The writing is well done and the characters are well thought out.
