Julianne MacLean
About this listen
From USA Today best-selling author Julianne MacLean comes an inspiring novel about secrets, forgiveness, and second chances. It's the newest title in her popular Color of Heaven Series, where people are affected by real life magic and miracles that change everything they once believed about life and love.
It's been three years since Emma Cochran endured the worst possible tragedy - the sudden, unexpected death of her two-year-old son. The emotional trauma tore her marriage apart, but now her divorce is final and she wants to begin again. She's found happiness at last with her fiancé, Luke, who is eager to start a family with her.
On the other side of the country, single mother Bev Hutchinson watches helplessly as her five-year-old daughter Louise drowns in a high-profile boating accident. Miraculously, Louise is brought back to life by first-responders, then claims she went to heaven. The news causes a media frenzy surrounding the little girl, and Bev does everything she can to shield herself and her daughter from the relentless swarming of the press.
Lives collide when Emma becomes obsessed with the story of the child, thousands of miles away, who drowned and went to heaven. She wants to connect with the mother, but Emma's fiancé is against the idea because he wants her to let go of her grief and move on.
But sometimes, moving on isn't the right choice when miracles are leading you back to your past - toward something, or someone, who was your destiny all along.

Heaven is here if we open our hearts.
I absolutely love this author and this series. The novel is filled with every emotion from hopelessness, fear, anger, happiness to love. A truly satisfying read. Each character is fully formed, complex and realistic. I cared deeply for each and every one of them. It gave me a renewed appreciation for life's trials and miracles. ENJOY!!

This series is fantastic!
Rarely do you read a book, much less a series, in which the characters show their faith and love for God and each other, without being preachy or having you get the feeling that you are having a Bible lesson. these books are so interesting and sweet, and I just loved how they expanded on the question that's in a lot of our minds regarding past lives. I'm sad to have just listen to what I think is the last book in this series. I hope that the author will continue writing this series. I also like the fact that there is no cursing, especially the GD word, which always makes me think less of an author who feels the need to use it. the series has left me with things to ponder.

THERE REALLY ARE SILVER LIVING IN LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was the best of the series. I appreciated that the relationships get going early on in the book. I would have given it five stars if it wasn't for the couple going to the physic person to talk to the dead son. Nope. I do not believe in this. It sets up a false reliance. And people get jilted out of funds. I did not like how Emma treated Luke. You can see from the very first Emma was going back to her husband who had a "change of heart." Emma should have been up front about her feeling and not tried to hide them from Luke. She knew his relationship with other women and how he felt about liars. I could not feel sorry for her.
I so appreciated how Bev handled her daughters tragedy. She did everything she could to keep her safe. One never knows how a journalist hounds a person just to get a story. I know not all journalist are not like this but the bad ones over shadows the good ones. I just wish they could put themselves in the persons shoes to see how it feels to be treated like dirt just to get a story. I struggled with Bev in how she handled the father of her baby. This issued started in the The Color of a Christmas Miracle book. It did not make sense to not let the father know about the baby. Bev as an ethical person it just did not work for me.
Everything works out and I am glad Luke finally finds his love.

The Color of a Silver Lining
I’m a sucker for a good ‘happily ever after’ story, with a few twists and turns, no matter how predictable. Loved the story. Performance wise there was a disconnect with Luke’s 2 voices. In each of the chapters headed Luke, a man performed. But when he was in conversation with either of the two women, his voice was performed by the woman, using a man’s voice. That was a distraction. I enjoy this author very much.

THIS IS SUCH A TOUCHING STORY — IT MADE ME CRY…
This was only my second book
by this author (the first having been, “A Fire Sparkling,” which was so good I had to find more by Julianne MacLean).
I selected this book even though it is not the beginning of the series. I am so glad I selected this one to read first in the “Color” series!
As the mother of two children who died very young (a boy and a girl), there hasn’t been a day since they left this earth that I haven’t wondered if I will ever be reunited with them. I am a very strong Christian. I believe in every word of the Bible; but there are times when I am feeling especially sad that doubt creeps in and I wonder if the promise of a Heaven where we are reunited REALLY exists, or is that all made up by people who need to believe that in order to survive the pain they are feeling after the loss of someone extremely dear to them? There have been so many times when I’ve asked, “What if this is IT? What if there is absolutely NOTHING after this place to look forward to? What if there really isn’t a place where we go from here to live in God’s kingdom and we are reunited with all the loved ones who have gone before us?” I know that’s where FAITH comes into our life, but for me, after losing my kids, my faith was shaken HARD and I’ve had questions ever since.
This book resonated with me SO much — especially the character of Emma. So often I wish I could have just five minutes to speak to my husband and children one last time. I have things I want to ask, to know, and most of all, one last chance to tell all of them how deeply they are all still loved.
Any mother can relate to why Emma found it so difficult to forgive herself, to try to move on and to TRY to find happiness again (so easy to say, so very hard to do).
This story, in places told from the viewpoint of 5-year-old Louise, who drowned and was thought to be dead for five minutes, gives me such hope that there MIGHT be a place to go to when my life on this earth is done. There is one scene in particular when she describes what “heaven” was like that made me want to jump with happiness. She said there were DOGS running around, wagging their tails, barking and playing. Animals have all always been a huge part of my life (dogs, cats, many other types). I have often thought that heaven MUST have animals, or for me, it wouldn’t really be heaven.
This book wove together how the lives of several people came together, for the good of all of them in the long run, even though getting to where they were meant to be was painful while on the journey. Some people call it luck (“Oh, wasn’t it lucky that Person A met Person B when they did!”). I call it “fate.” I believe God puts the people we need in our lives on the same path we are traveling so we will meet. Those who don’t believe in God, may call it something else.
This book leaves readers with hope and the belief that good things can come from bad circumstances, and that beauty is all around us here, right where we are — all we have to do to find it is to LOOK.
Spend the credit on this book. It’s a credit well spent.
