When Christine Bennett is invited on a sightseeing trip to Arizona, she jumps at the chance for a little adventure. But the excursion reminds her of a former high school classmate, Heinz Gruner, who died 20 years earlier on Cinco de Mayo while hiking Picacho Peak near Tucson. Chris decides to contact Heinz’s mother, who has been wondering all these years how her beloved son, an experienced hiker, plunged to his death. Her one wish is to find out the truth-whether it was an accident, as the police report claimed, or murder. So Chris begins sleuthing-tracking down anyone and everyone connected to her old classmate. Determined to unravel a mystery, if there is indeed one to unravel, Chris will stop at nothing to uncover the dire secrets that exist about that fateful day in May.

Although this one is not my LEAST favorite in the series, it certainly is not up to par for the author or the series. And I hate that, because its the last one and I was hoping for it to end with a good one. I do not want to give away the plot or resolution, but suffice to say I was disappointed. This story was a stretch. I was looking forward to some good descriptions of Arizona and her trip with Sister Joseph, but that part of the book was VERY short. The actual investigation was of a death that took place twenty years earlier and Chris' relationship to the young man who died wasn't a strong one, and she didn't have strong ties to any of his family. An attempt was made to form a relationship with Heinz' mother, which was going alright . . . until she died . . . so, in fact she only had known her for a couple weeks. Nothing was said or done to indicate that the series was ending. I've grown attached to all the people in this series, and after 17 books, I was hoping for a little better send off.
