About this listen
Today we find ourselves in possession of stupendous know-how, which we willingly place in the hands of the most highly skilled people. But avoidable failures are common, and the reason is simple: the volume and complexity of our knowledge has exceeded our ability to consistently deliver it - correctly, safely or efficiently.
In this groundbreaking audiobook, Atul Gawande makes a compelling argument for the checklist, which he believes to be the most promising method available in surmounting failure. Whether you're following a recipe, investing millions of dollars in a company or building a skyscraper, the checklist is an essential tool in virtually every area of our lives, and Gawande explains how breaking down complex, high pressure tasks into small steps can radically improve everything from airline safety to heart surgery survival rates.
Fascinating and enlightening, The Checklist Manifesto shows how the simplest of ideas could transform how we operate in almost any field.

Insightful, intuitive, applicable and ridiculously necessary
An interesting point was on “Why would the checklist ‘unexpected errors’ category ”..
My insight / theory: reading load “anticipated complications” among other steps, as well as triggering “did you did this thing or that”, might alert the surgeon; engaging system 2 (thinking fast & slow by Daniel Kahneman) from the beginning of surgery; the analytical component has taken over the routine mechanical portion. But would longitudinal/ repeated measures of complications after implementing the checklists, demonstrate a regression to the mean?

Surprisingly captivating
Never thought an entire book could be about checklists
alone, but the stories given along with it from surgery and aviation really brought this to life.

This is a must for anyone in Healthcare.
I think I must have listened to it at least four times.
I am a nurse who wants to improve systems, and this book is a good start and a good guide to better patient safety.
It is also good for people looking to improve processes and systems.
Highly recommended

Waste of time
In summary checklists are in important in all industries and there are examples of its effectiveness in medicine (lots of examples used here), finance (very few poor examples used here) and a couple of other industries. This book is such a waste of time

An article padded onto a book.
This should have been an article or a pamphlet, it's basically a bunch of stories where checklists were introduced into situations and improved them. Surgery, flight, etc. It gets repetitive fast and has all the creativity of a first year college student with a word count to hit
