About this listen

Unlucky in Love

Years ago Alden Leeds found a rich vein of gold in the Klondike. Now his greedy relatives fear he's planning to throw his fortune away on a gold-digging spouse, Emily Milicant. So to prevent the two from joining in holy matrimony, they commit their affluent kin to a sanitarium on a trumped-up charge.

Then Leeds escapes, only to end up in the company of Emily's blackmailing brother, John, a manufacturer of fixed dice, rolling bones that always come up seven. But when John is murdered - with Leeds's fingerprints found all over the apartment - Perry Mason must crack a baffling case before his client bumps from the nut house to the jail house....

The characters in the story are super colorful, the back stories are amazing, it’s just a kind of ultra escapist super fun that anyone could ever ask for. Contemporary Perry Mason stuff paired up with Alaska Gold, Rush. What could be better? Lots of Della lots of Gertrude lots of Paul Drake. This is as good as any per Mason, I love this one.

Very complicated fun plot

Why the narrator thought it was important to add the sounds of Drake chewing gum beats me. It’s a very annoying sound. Fortunately, it’s a very small part of the book.

Definitely was fun to listen to

Love it except gum chewing

Not sure what year this was written but it's a fun listen having grown up with Raymond Burr's Perry Mason. The narrator was perfect except for the female voices but his rendition wasn't enough to really bother me.

If you loved the old Perry Mason TV show then you'll love this. Earle Stanley Gardner was a good author and his books still hold up.

An enjoyable listen

I liked the book and I usually like this narrator. But his “old prospector” voice annoys me. That the only reason I gave the performance three stars.

Good narration except the elderly

Not o e of my favorite books by E. S. Gardner. Too much happening with to many suspects.
