Publisher's summary
The beloved author of The Bookshop on the Corner returns with a sparkling, sunny, soulful new novel perfect for fans of Elin Hilderbrand.
Years ago, Flora fled the quiet Scottish island where she grew up - and she hasn't looked back. What would have done on Mure? It's a place where everyone has known her all her life, where no one will let her forget the past. In bright, bustling London, she can be anonymous, ambitious...and hopelessly in love with her boss. But when fate brings Flora back to the island, she's suddenly swept once more into life with her brothers - all strapping, loud, and seemingly incapable of basic housework - and her father. Yet even amid the chaos of their reunion, Flora discovers a passion for cooking - and find herself restoring dusty little pink-fronted shop on the harbour: a café by the sea.
But with the seasons changing, Flora must come to terms with past mistakes - and work out exactly where her future lies....
Funny and heartfelt, The Café by the Sea is a delightful summertime novel that puts a modern twist on the classic Seven Brides for Seven Brothers story.

Posy Fairweather is over the moon when her boyfriend Matt proposes in what is probably the most romantic way possible—on top of a mountain, in a thunderstorm, like something from a Nicholas Sparks novel. But a few days later he dumps her. Crushed and humiliated, Posy wonders why all her romances have always been such train wrecks. Determined to gain some insight, Posy resolves to get online, track down her exes, and ask them. Which doors from Posy’s past should stay closed? Which might open? Can she learn from past mistakes?

Story was Good
The child's voice actually took away from the story. I had read reviews saying that it was bad but I thought, it might just be perspective. Nope; I got through it painfully but hesitate to listen to the next book in the series.

Loved this heartfelt story of family and community
I cried multiple times at the idea that things like this could exist. Also…totally got in the mood for many foods while listening.

I enjoyed it
Any additional comments?
A breezy, lovely story about going home again. Recommended to fans of Jenny Colgan - which I am.

Sweet and Enjoyable!
As a Scotland lover, I enjoyed this book. Very clean (pg rated romance level).
Sometimes the chapter changes were a little abrupt and had a little difficulty following, but overall, very enjoyable listen. I’ll definitely listen to a second book in the series if there is one! ❤️

Another Fun Jenny Colgan Read
Where does The Cafe by the Sea rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Enjoyable and light hearted read - I always enjoy Jenny Colgan's books - they are a lovely little escape, funny, and there's usually food involved...what's not to like?
What about Sarah Barron’s performance did you like?
Sarah Barron did a great job on this performance; her accents were good and she really portrayed each of the characters in quite an individual way.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I listened to this book on a long road trip, so it was basically an all in one sitting. A wonderful way to make a boring road trip enjoyable.

A sweet & refreshing audio book
I’m so glad that the negative reviews given to this audio book didn’t stop me from giving it a chance, it was a really sweet and refreshing story! I really enjoyed it & bonus you get recipes at the end. I think I will probably listen to this book again, very soon.

Sweet story
Similar to other Jenny Colgan books I've read, I really enjoyed this one. Nothing too deep, but it explored the meaning of home and family with some romance mixed in.
