About this listen

Duke Evans didn’t expect to find a beautiful woman in a staring contest with a bison on his favorite hiking trail. He also didn’t expect to see her again after rescuing her from the surly beast. As the sheriff in Calamity, Montana, he’s had his fair share of surprises but none as pleasant as pulling over a shiny black car and finding his mysterious hiking companion behind the wheel.

Only she lied to Duke. She gave him a name as fake as her hair color. According to her driver’s license, her real name is Lucy Ross, the famous country music singer whose sudden disappearance has been a hot topic on the radio over the past two weeks.

He’s not sure why Lucy lied about her identity or why she’s in Calamity. And she’s not talking. Instead, she offers him a bribe to keep her secret. Duke doesn’t want her money. He wants to know why this beautiful woman is on the run. And as long as the star shines on his badge, he’s going to find out.

I need more of this series!!!!

The Bribe is the first book of the Calamity Montana series. It’s also the first book by Willa Nash. The Bribe is about a famous singer Lucy Ross (hiding out as Jade Morgan) and Duke Evans (Sheriff of Calamity). Lucy has been scared into hiding from a crazed stalker making sure no one knows who she is or her whereabouts. However, once pulled over Duke quickly finds out who she really is. Desperate to keep herself hidden Lucy offers him a ton of money to not give a ticket and keep her identity hidden. Duke has other plans and intends to find out what happened that sent her into hiding and make sure that not only she is safe but also protect his small town from what could happen there if exposed.

This book was so good. These two characters has so much chemistry, and love for each other. Even though Lucy was a famous singer she was kind and thought of others. Her friendship with Everly had me laughing at points, and the fact that she wanted Travis above anyone else to like her because of how much he meant to Duke spoke highly of her character, as I'm sure most people in that situation would not be comfortable with that relationship. That relationship with Travis alone says how much of a huge heart Duke does have. You will laugh, cry, swoon, and get upset that you have to wait so long for the next book in this series. after that epilogue I NEED the next book and I need it NOW!

"In public you're Jade. But behind closed doors, you're-" "Lucy?" she breathed. I shook my head. "Mine"

Country Star and A Montana Sheriff

Running and hiding away from Nashville because of a stalker, Lucy goes to Montana. Seeking to find her joy in life and music Lucy meets Duke, a small town Montana sheriff
The characters in this story, main and secondary, are lovable, interesting, open and understanding..as a reader they drew me into their world and had me pulling for a HEA, which I got!
Great narrators who add, which is important,, to the flow and feel of the story
Looking forward to the next book of Lucy’s friend Everly!

The Bribe: Calamity Montana Book 1

🎧🎧AUDIO REVIEW🎧🎧

PERFORMANCE REVIEW & RATING: 5 STARS

Ava Erickson & Jason Clarke have very rarely disappointed, and they didn’t this time! Loved their narration! Well done!

STORY REVIEW & RATING: 4.5 STARS

I really enjoy how Devney Perry writing as Willa Nash always has a mysterious air to her stories that never overshadow the romance journey. This story in particular sticks out with this point because of the extreme nature of the mystery plot-point. It’s been a couple of years since this story published so I feel okay about just saying what needs to be said and not be afraid of spoilers so … Lucy’s stalker wasn’t just an annoyance she was trying to ghost. The stalker was legit dangerous but instead of dragging that danger into the journey in Calamity, Devney made a choice to focus on the romance and have the ‘stalker’ be a plot-point that was being told to us and not really living it present day. Make sense? Until the end, of course, when it all came to a head.

I dunno, but I really liked this choice because it allowed me as the reader to focus on Lucy and Duke in the now and how they grew their relationship and how Lucy was becoming a part of the community. The ‘drama’ didn’t get in the way of building the romance. HUGE PLUS!

Also, even though this is a ‘small-town’ setting, Devney didn’t throw in all the typical shenanigans of small-town living into the mix. It would have been really easy because of who Lucy was to throw in all the busybody, in your face, everyone knows everything shenanigans in the mix of Lucy’s journey, but that would have ruined the space that Lucy & Duke needed to grow their relationship, etc etc etc.

I really loved this story and I’m about to dive into the next book because I’m incapable of just reading one book without binging LOL if they’re already published, and I feel good about this series!

Fantastic!

I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this book but I quickly found myself wrapped up in the story of Lucy and Duke. As the story unfolds and secrets are revealed, I became swept away by the story and the way the narrators portrayed the characters. I finished this book in one day and can't wait to enjoy the next book in the series.

Good Debut!!!

I listened to this book in one sitting. Willa Nash made a good debut. I have listened to everything under her other pen name Devney Perry so I figured why not give this book a shot.

I love small town romances and this author is one of the best in my opinion. The story is based in the small town of Calamity where everyone knows you and all of your business.

Duke as the town sheriff and Lucy as a famous country singer hiding out in his town was a great storyline. They meet at a time when Lucy is running from pain and well…. a stalker! Duke was so sweet in this book while still being every bit of a small-town sheriff meaning nothing goes down in his town without him knowing about it.

Although this was a good listen due to the narrators, Ava Erickson and Jason Clarke did a wonderful job, I will say that I felt this story dragged a bit. There was also not much action and the small amount given seemed rushed.

That being said I still can’t wait to listen to book 2 The Bluff because the epilogue in this book definitely has my mind wondering.
