About this listen

The Bird and the Sword: Booktrack Edition adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience!*

Swallow, daughter, pull them in, those words that sit upon your lips.

Lock them deep inside your soul, hide them ‘til they’ve time to grow.

Close your mouth upon the power, curse not, cure not, ‘til the hour.

You won’t speak and you won’t tell, you won’t call on heaven or hell.

You will learn and you will thrive. Silence, daughter. Stay alive.

The day my mother was killed, she told my father I wouldn’t speak again, and she told him if I died, he would die too. Then she predicted the king would sell his soul and lose his son to the sky. My father has a claim to the throne, and he is waiting in the shadows for all of my mother’s words to come to pass. He wants desperately to be king, and I just want to be free.

But freedom will require escape, and I’m a prisoner of my mother’s curse and my father’s greed. I can’t speak or make a sound, and I can’t wield a sword or beguile a king. In a land purged of enchantment, love might be the only magic left, and who could ever love...a bird?

Angsty, poetic Howls Moving Castle

If you're a fan of Howls Moving Castle, you will likely ADORE this book. I didn't even use credits to buy this book, I used real money. that's a big deal.
The music by Booktrack elevated the listening experience. The music was never too loud or out of place.
Also, out darling narrator did a phenomenal job.

The way Amy Harmon writes, omg. It is poetic, lyrical. It is so soothing to listen to.

A masterpiece!

I’ve enjoyed all of Amy Harmon’s books, but this one with background music was captivating, the narration was superb!

Completely swept away

As if I were a child engrossed in an engaging fairy tale. I was enchanted from the start.
Though the narration doesn't early match the description of Lark's voice, she still does a lovely job.
I thought the music was a wonderful addition, pulling you along and making by your pulse race and evoking emotional responses as only music really can. Though there were some occasions I found it a bit loud on a production level, sometimes making the narration a bit difficult to hear.

Heartfelt Story

This was a warm and heartfelt story, a good book to listen to snuggled up in front of the fire on a cool and rainy day or snuggled under the blankets at bedtime. But remember to put the timer on because the narrator's voice can easily sing you right off to sleep if you're not careful. She could also keep you up all night or until a battle had ended and you could breathe easily. I will definitely recommend this book to friends and family

Good storyline horrible narrator.

I enjoyed the storyline of this book a lot and have read and enjoyed other books by Amy Harmon. Unfortunately the narrator was horrible and took some of the enjoyment out of the book because of her inability to switch to a convincing male voice and even to other female voices and her over-dramatization of Lark was annoying. I will avoid is narrator in the future. I did note that the other book in this series is narrated by one of my all time favorite narrators Steve West and have high hopes for the totally wonderful experience one gets when a great book is paired with a great narrator.

My favorite by far

This was my fourth Audio book by Amy Harmon and by far my favorite. I think the music really enhanced the audio book. The storyline and plot was intriguing. Just when you think you know what is going to happen or who the villain is there is a change and off you go again. I really enjoyed this book !

Great story Great narrator

I am a fan of Amy H’s work. Her books are creative and engaging. I am not a fan of open door romance and she is the best at balancing chemistry without being explicit. I am willing to read all her books and look forward to new ones.

Beautiful

I rarely give a book 5 stars, but this one, oh my. What a beautiful fantasy story that contains love, hate, magic, seers, kings, queens, kingdoms, wars, evil and more. This story grabbed me on the very first page and kept me reading and wanting to know more me until the last page and then some. I'm so very glad to know it has a sequel, which I immediately purchased. Amy Harmon is a consummate storyteller. I'm finding that I want to read her books more and more and probably won't stop until I have exhausted her library. She writes a story so full of history thus making the characters simply jump off the pages and come sit beside you as if they are telling you their story. My heart loved Lark and the king and I kept wanting more for them. A wonderful read that will leave your heart smiling.
