About this listen
"Beware false prophets in sheep clothes-they can be hungry wolves." (Lay Pastor Eddie Red Horse reading from Matt 7:15)
An old silversmith's body is dumped along the highway, and Legal Services Investigator Charlie Yazzie isn't content to stand by while the FBI and Tribal look for clues—not when he sees his friends Thomas Begay and Harley Ponyboy sucked into a tightening web of evil.
When a beautiful stranger knocks on Harley's door the game changes . . . and so do Harley's loyalties. One thing is clear in this chilling new addition to Chappell's Navajo Nation mystery series—a spate of murders and an outlier with a deadly agenda should be warning enough for anyone.

Story
Reservation "bad boy" Thomas Begay is found dead drunk under the La Plata Bridge, which is not unusual for him. What is unusual, however, is that beautiful BIA investigator Patsy Greyhorse is found lying beside him, not drunk or even a Navajo but very dead nonetheless. Charlie Yazzie, fresh from law school, risks his career and even his life to help his old friend. The answer seems to lie with the Yeenaaldiooshii...should one choose to believe in such things.

Lucas knows the perfect night entails just three things: video games, wine, and pad thai. Peanuts are a must! Other people? Not so much. Why complicate things when he’s happy alone? Then one day the apartment board, a vexing trio of authority, rings his doorbell. And Lucas’s solitude takes a startling hike. They demand to see his frying pan. Someone left one next to the recycling room overnight, and instead of removing the errant object, as Lucas suggests, they insist on finding the guilty party. But their plan backfires. Colossally.

Two little girls stand with their heads bowed in my living room. I’m told they’re my granddaughters. Daisy is nine, and Alice seven. Daisy is the spitting image of her mother. This is the first time I’ve met them since my daughter and I fell out after she married that waste of space, Vince. They’ve come to live with me because their mother — my daughter — was murdered. In her own home while they slept close by. I think Vince killed her. But the police can’t prove it. I’ve always known he was no good. He treated my daughter like dirt. I said he’d cheat on her — but she wouldn’t listen.

Story
Traumatized by the bombing of Dresden at the time he had been imprisoned, Pilgrim drifts through all events and history, sometimes deeply implicated, sometimes a witness. He is surrounded by Vonnegut's usual large cast of continuing characters (notably here the hack science fiction writer Kilgore Trout and the alien Tralfamadorians, who oversee his life and remind him constantly that there is no causation, no order, no motive to existence).

First the characters are just great, the narrator is awesome and the stories are enthralling. This is 10x better than hillerman.
