About this listen

Adventures in Babysitting meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer in this funny, action-packed novel about a coven of witchy babysitters who realize their calling to protect the innocent and save the world from an onslaught of evil.

Seventeen-year-old Esme Pearl has a babysitters club. She knows it's kinda lame, but what else is she supposed to do? Get a job? Gross. Besides, Esme likes babysitting, and she's good at it.

And lately, Esme needs all the cash she can get, because it seems like destruction follows her wherever she goes. Let's just say she owes some people a new tree.

Enter Cassandra Heaven. She's Instagram-model hot, dresses like she found her clothes in a dumpster, and has a rebellious streak as gnarly as the cafeteria cooking. So why is Cassandra willing to do anything, even take on a potty-training two-year-old, to join Esme's babysitters club?

The answer lies in a mysterious note Cassandra's mother left her: "Find the babysitters. Love, Mom."

Turns out, Esme and Cassandra have more in common than they think, and they're about to discover what being a babysitter really means: a heroic lineage of superpowers, magic rituals, and saving the innocent from seriously terrifying evil. And all before the parents get home.

As an adult who occasionally enjoys YA books, this one was pretty good. The narrator does a really good job and the story is a mix of funny and spooky with a little light horror thrown in for good measure. Would be a good book to listen to when you're in the mood for something that's about as scary as a Lifetime movie.

Just Spooky Enough

This was a good short story that is reminiscent of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. As a Buffy fan, I like the similarities in mythology and its even mentioned in the story. A must listen/read for anyone that is into supernatural teen comedies. The narrator did a great job in bringing the characters to life. I highly recommend and look forward to book two in the series.

A surprising adventure

That title pretty much sums up my view on this book. It was good, and weird. I think there may have been some forced relationships to make it work, You may be able to tell the almost rushed feeling the author had from trying to take several idea points and smash them into a book. I did like it in the end, but I am not sure really why I do. Like I said, it is interesting.
This isn't really one that I think I would recommend unless they liked The Babysitters Club and Twilight.

Interesting...

honestly it took a little for me to get through this book. I wanted to love it but couldn't get past the babysitter thing. it's like a mix of the babysitters club and stranger things. a weird mixture but wasnt that bad. overall I enjoyed it but wouldnt read it again.

I enjoyed it

One gets a feel that the story gets better and better, until one moment and then a few more reveal that both the creatures, the bad guys, *and* the sitters organization have at least a streak of evil. For instance, "no harm", "no killing", and mind wiping are the ideals of the sitters in power. That is a guaranteed recipe for chaos and losing. There is a concept frequently recognized by those who practice any tradition of magic that what is done will come back greater than it was originally. It doesn't matter if it is two fold, five fold, seven fold, or ten! The point is that if one does something evil, one should expect something similar to happen unto them. Anyone who holds that doing no harm and no killing is an iron clad restriction also holds that killing is okay for both the innocent and the wicked. Anyone who holds that wiping minds is a best practice also holds that it is fine for themselves to be ignorant or even have their own minds wiped. Feel free to argue, but it I'm referring to the brain and how the mind works. You can't actually function as a human being when confronted with such a dilemma and holding such views. The logic fails and the person is forced to be impotent and probably to fail as well.

Except for the brain fart level of logic enforced by the counsel-like leaders and/or author, the story is fantastic and interesting.

Did you think 'witchcraft'? This is slightly fantasy Sitter Craft!

Although this story had such a fun finish, the beginning was hard to get through. Push through and get to the end!

Not exactly like Buffy, but still very fun
