Such a helpful book!!
This book is brilliant! It is packed with direct how-tos in negotiation and communication. I am definitely going to refer back to it and likely listen to it again. I love the inclusion of the bonus materials—especially the sound track to help with neuroplasticty and the inclusion of so much psychology. The author gives lots of other resources for further development too. Highly recommended!!

Warm, informative, entertaining, valuable
I listened to this book as I was preparing to win a consultancy proposal. In fact, I listened to it while I wrote the proposal. It was so easy to listen to – it’s written and orated beautifully. For what could be seen as a dry topic – negotiation - I found this book was able to hold my attention because it was entertaining, energetic and informative.
I loved the mix of personal stories the author adds too. I found myself leaning into the stories he adds where his children featured. They were both funny and heartfelt.
The tip about not trying to not master everything at once, and remaining emotionally calm so we can become keen observers, which in turn, helps make us better negotiators. This is particularly because we better notice body language.
This book is a cool, insightful and practical guide for anyone seeking to improve their negotiation skills and not just for professionals in business. The tips in this book can be used for anyone.
The author talks about the importance of knowing what we want and where we want to go – moving towards pleasure or away from pain – writing this down helps us be clear. This is extremely important when negotiating. Some other great techniques in this book around this include the ‘because’ technique, understanding your BATNA, and the strengths and weaknesses exercise.
There’s so much useful information in this book but it’s paced well and structured well. The empathy throughout provides a lovely perspective to the book.
Overall, The Art of Negotiation is a clear, valuable read for anyone looking to improve their ability to influence, persuade, and reach mutually beneficial agreements. After reading it, I felt more empowered to approach negotiations with confidence and skill.
