About this listen

If you’ve ever wondered about who constituted the inner circle of Jesus, don’t wonder any longer.

While the words and actions of the 12 apostles can be found scattered throughout the New Testament, putting together the pieces can be confusing, taxing, and just plain hard. Names are often repeated or changed. Previous jobs and possible destinations are mentioned, but even a map of the ancient world can be difficult to piece together. While some books of the bible are written by the apostles, some are not, and others only give enticing hints as to who read them, where, and why. Commentaries abound, as do histories from men like Origen, Eusebius, and Jerome. So, where is one to begin?

In this audiobook, all that work has finally been done for you. Told in an easy, interesting, and engaging style, you can finally peruse the stories that will broaden your knowledge and add to your religious conversations. Students of history and Christianity will find theories, traditions, and even long-forgotten stories from outside the bible to ponder, and ultimately come to one’s own decision. This audiobook is not meant to convert the listener, it is meant to share facts.

At last, without spending countless hours and thousands of dollars on volume upon volume of textbooks, the listener has a jumping-off point for what will prove to be an exciting and thought-provoking journey.

Inside, you’ll find the answers to these questions:

  • Where did the apostles go after the bible stories end?
  • Why did they seem to disagree with each other so often?
  • Which apostles had families, or were related?
  • Why do some people count 12, 13, or 14 apostles?
  • How did such ordinary men come to have such a huge influence on the world today?

Very good insight

Perfect book to gain a quick historical overview of each Apostle before choosing which to study in more depth.

A good summary of the best known information

A good job of navigating a millennia-old burned- over district. I’m relatively new to “Church tradition,” I was glad to see some reference to the gnostics as well as the apocrypha. The constant mispronunciation is wearing. It may be a church Latin/classical Latin thing, but it’s distracting
. I was hoping for some inclusion of the Nag Hammadi scrolls.

?

Too many illusions to falsehoods in one’s common understanding. Seems to be questioning one’s knowledge of the gospels.
Seems to mock the apostles
