About this listen

From New York Times best-selling author Penelope Ward comes a new stand-alone novel.

At first, my neighbor Deacon frustrated me. Sure, he was great-looking and friendly. But our walls were thin, and on occasion, he’d bring women to his place and keep me awake while he “entertained” them. As a single mother to an infant, I didn’t appreciate it. So, finally, it was my turn.

When my daughter wouldn’t stop wailing one night, Mr. Manwhore came knocking on my door. Miraculously, at the sound of his voice, Sunny stopped crying. And when he held her...she eventually fell asleep in his arms.

Deacon was rough on the exterior, but apparently on the inside? Mr. Single-and-Ready-to-Mingle was a baby whisperer.

After that night, we became friends. He’d go for coffee runs. Come over to chat. Normal friend stuff.

But over time, our conversations ran deeper. We got closer. Until one night we crossed the line.

Our friendship turned into a complicated mess.

I’d gone and fallen for a guy who’d sworn off commitment and kids. I knew Deacon was starting to care for me too, even though Sunny and I didn’t fit into any plan he’d ever imagined for himself.

He was wrong for me - so wrong that I’d dubbed him the “anti-boyfriend”.

Then why did I wish more than anything that I could be the one woman to change him?

Beautiful Romance!❤️💙

This is another winner for me. The romance between Deacon and Carys is great, narrators are awesome as always, and the pace of the story is right on. There is the added bonus of Sunny, a beautiful name for a beautiful baby girl who has love to go around. A story of moving on and redefining family.

I love friends to more stories, and this one delivers, with just enough angst to keep me on the edge without falling apart. Fair warning, there are some serious laugh out loud moments when they are texting so be ready if you are driving or in mixed company. Loved the epilogue. Highly recommended!!

Sweet and Realistic!

A cute and sweet story about neighbors who are just perfect for one another. And no neighbor story would be complete without a crazy old lady peanut gallery inserting itself from time to time (LOL). I liked how the story wasn't overly messy while still treating certain topics sensitively and with realism. For a man with a past tragedy in his life, trusting himself and being afraid is completely realistic. For a woman with abandonment issues, having trouble letting people in is understandable. Overall, I really liked the change of pace from some of my other reads with this sweet story with characters who could easily be real people with real problems.

Andi Arndt and Sebastian York as always did a fantastic job narrating the story and I really love when Sebastian does kid voices. So cute!

Another great one from Penelope Ward

I really enjoyed the Anti- boyfriend. Deacon was so sweet and funny, it was hilarious every time he went shopping 🤣. the whole story arc felt natural and was sweet and hot at the same time. His relationship with Sunny was adorable.
Andi Arndt and Sébastian York are always fantastic in everything they narrate.

Deacon's love for baby Sunny had me swooning HARD!

Oh my heart! Romance novels with babies in them get me every time! The friendship between Carys and Deacon was so sweet, and I loved his grocery store text messages. I felt their relationship developed quite authentically, and their dialog and conversations were so real. The way their past experiences connected them added such a great layer to their relationship. Deacon's love for baby Sunny had me swooning HARD! I purchased the audiobook and finished it in just a day- the story consumed me. Fan favorites Andi Arndt and Sebastian York were fantastic as usual.

Loved It

This book was so real. Characters did not fall in love overnight. The worked through their issues, it's the closest to a real life story I've read in a bit
