About this listen

Terry Grosz returns to the unexplored and many times dangerous early American West in his sixth mountain man novel, The Adventurous Life of Tom "Iron Hand" Warren: Mountain Man.

Tom Warren, a giant of a man in stature and physical strength, experiencing a deadly tragedy, turns to his new life as a mountain man in the largely unexplored mountain west, facing its many dangers in an attempt to forget his earlier life. Tom soon discovers new friendships among his kind at historic Fort Union, matched only by subsequent dangers and challenges from grizzly bears, renegade fur trappers, an Indian out to kill him and the rescue of an Indian maiden in distress which gains him more deadly enemies. He achieved the name of "Iron Hand" because of his immense strength in battle and is so honored by the fierce Blackfeet Nation as a sign of respect. In that new life, he gains a son and ends his adventures with a violent surprise that will eventually leave his listeners with a smile as they, too, find themselves "chasing the winds of destiny"....

Terry Grosz was a Conservation Law Enforcement Officer for 32 years, initially for the State of California and later with the US Fish and Wildlife Service. He has written 14 memoirs and seven historical novels. His memoir, Wildlife Wars, was a National Outdoor Book Award winner for the nature and environment category. A number of his memoir stories were broadcast as a docudrama on the Animal Planet series.

Narrator was very stiff

Narrator was extremely stiff and unattached to the story. The narrator made this story hard stay interested in. I’ve listened to hundreds of books, this was the most difficult.

Narrator

This is the worst Narrator I have ever listened to! His voice is very annoying and he reads to fast. Definitely will not listen to or buy another book narrated by this narrator!

Terrible Narrator

The worst narrator I have ever tried to listen too. A 1st grader could do a better job. The story is probably a good one but I can’t listen to this guy.

Amazing Narrator!!!!

I have probably listened to 350+ audio books. I think this has to be the worst narrator I have ever heard. Sometimes it is almost like a computer voice, but that would be a disservice to a computer. The story is not bad, but it keeps repeating things so much that I wonder if it was Terry Grosz that did the whole book by himself. I have liked the first 4 books in the series that I have listened to, but I don't know if I am going to be able to listen to the last third of this one.

wrong voice

I will not buy any other books with this narrator. wrong voice for a mountain man book. reminds me a fourth grade teacher reading to his students. Poor quality story by this author, changed names of characters but the same story line, even to having all of his characters working on Ft. Union.

Poor, poor, poor narration

First the narrator sounds as if his voice is a computer generated robot’s. Second, he doesn’t know how to pronounce a number of items. Such as “Gros Ventre” Indians. It is pronounced phonetically as “grow cont” not “gross gentry”, and cache is pronounced “cash” not “cashay”. There were a number of others which made it very irritating to listen to.
If you are going to provide books with such poor narration I may just quit buying. Terrible!
Overall the story was good but Mr. Grosz was very poorly represented by your narrator!
I can’t say enough how irritating it was to listen to. Nick Patton
