Publisher's summary

Evan Tailor needs to kill an Archmage.

If he can survive a party first.

With the Silver Queen calling in her debt, Archmage Roark's oaths binding him into assistance and silence, and new classes pulling at Evan from all sides, this year is not turning out to be the peaceful and prosperous introduction to abjuration magic that Evan had hoped for.

While his enemies and friends alike racing for more power, Evan is going to need to strain his magical skills like never before if he wants to become strong enough to survive.

Good book, good narration

This series keeps getting better and better. the performance of this audio version was as excellent as both the others, the stakes in the story keep rising, and Evander has fun ideas for his enchanting.

The joy these books bring me!

I think Tobias Begley is in my top 5 fantasy authors of all time. Every book is a success. This one is no exception.

The main relationship is drama-free, the characters are endearing, and everything is as queer as can be (in the best possible ways, naturally). I can't wait to see what else Tobias Begley does in concluding Evan's story and what else he has planned for this world and others.

Solid story telling building on the unique elements of the setting

First of all I continue to enjoy Emily's performance in this series. Just a solid narration with unique and clear dialogue for folks.

I enjoyed the novel itself a lot and showing how Evan is using his advantages and hard won expertise to overcome what are effectively titans of his world. A nice mix of personal and magical progression, with interesting politics of both human and other varieties and wrapped around a solid romantic plot with partners who support each other and come together the same way his magic does.
