About this listen

RITA Award winner Jodi Thomas continues her Whispering Mountain series with this second installment. Horse breeder Tobin McMurray doesn’t venture too far from his homestead. But when a Texas senator offers Tobin handsome compensation to deliver a horse to his daughter and teach her how to ride, he grudgingly agrees. Soon Tobin finds himself falling in love with the beautiful woman—but their budding romance is headed straight for danger.

Rolling my eyes…

Everything about this book works or should have worked(great world building, great plot, interesting enough characters) but a couple things, She was too stupid to live!
I also like to be convinced that the MCs are equally invested in each other. I wasn’t convinced of Libby’s affection at any point. A good compromise is meeting each other halfway. Libby kept wanting her way or the Highway from start to end

*spoilers*

When he finally found her I wanted to smack them for wasting time kissing and talking when the military was just close by 🙄
And when she got mad at him for not promising to never die 🙄🙄 like he can control his life
Her ask at the end was soo selfish too 🙄🙄🙄
He also waited too long to tell her how he truly felt about her
When she went back with her dad she didn’t even think about him meanwhile Tobin was sleeping outside in despair 🙄🙄🙄🙄
Finally her reaction when he finally comes just falls flat
This could have easily been a desert island keeper

Thoroughly enjoyable

A great listen, albeit not as strong in 'stand alone' character and plot development as the first two in the series. I listened to it as a much anticipated sequal to the first two books and thoroughly enjoyed it.

A bit bloated

The book is really, really good and when it is bad it is bloated. The book takes a few wrong turns into bloatland when an attractive and otherwise clever heroine makes dumb as a box of rocks decisions. This plot plan fails several times and the book sags very heavily from the late 20's too mid thirties chapters. When I saw how the wind blew, I skipped chapters, just listening to their starts and ends, and really enjoyed the book when it speeded up. There is a great book wedged around the bloated parts, and judicious skipping ahead, at least towards the conclusion, made the experience quite satisfying reading. These must be early books of Thomas because her later ones are very economical.

Can't get over it

Jodi Thomas weaves a very fine story in Whispering Mountain Novels. Each book tells the story of each MacMurray. I never regretted starting with Taegan's book, then Sage and ended with Tobin which is the 2nd of the series.

I love the author for making each story a stand alone despite the connection of each characters. Im having difficulty getting over the series and im looking forward for the missing books from audible.

As for the narrator, Linda Stephens kind of grew on me and cant have any other to narrate the missing books.

A nice twist on Beauty and the Beast

The Whispering Mountain series is addictive. I enjoy the pieces laid for sequels, as well as the deeper development of the McMurry story. The Native American Apache story feels like a stereotyped bandaid, but nothing is perfect.

Another Great Story

Jodi Thomas has written another great book with Texas Princess. This second book in the "Whispering Mountain" series is about the youngest brother Tobin McMurray. He is send to show a horse to a Senators daughter. Soon things go wrong and now every law man in Texas is after Tobin McMurray for kidnapping. You will come to love Tobin McMurray and the Texas Princess, hopping that the two of them will get just what they want. Linda Stephens does a wonderful job with the narration of this book.

Excellent Plot and Well Written

Would you consider the audio edition of Texas Princess to be better than the print version?

The audio version is only better because my eyes get so tired and I can not read as much as I once did. I can also listen and drive.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jodi Thomas has a way of introducing her secondary characters in one novel and hooking you into the next.

Have you listened to any of Linda Stephens’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Tobin McMurray

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Tobin McMurray walks off the page and goes straight to your heart. The love of a quiet, strong man like can teach even a Princess like Liberty Mayfield how to be strong and safe. Passion and steadfast love are extras in this Whispering Mountain book by an author who knows how to write passion not pornography.

Any additional comments?

Jodi Thomas always delivers on an intriguing plot, rich with history and spunky heroines like Liberty in the Texas Princess. However it's the hero in her books that make the difference. Tobin McMurray's quite strength captures the reader.

McMurray legend

Would you consider the audio edition of Texas Princess to be better than the print version?

Maybe not better but different. I like to listen at bedtime because it takes me to another world and relaxes me. That's why I only read / listen to romances!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Texas Princess?

Tobin's change of heart and the dream of his destiny

What does Linda Stephens bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Personalities

Any additional comments?

Love those McMurray boys!

Denial of devotion.

Delving into the doubts of love and understanding. Devotion of accepting each others dreams and imaginations. Misunderstanding the implications of true love.
