About this listen

The national bestselling detective novel set in a futuristic Los Angeles by the legendary actor who played the original Captain Kirk on Star Trek!

Not satisfied with the thrills of being one of Greater Los Angeles' toughest cops, Jake Cardigan turns to Tek, a computerized brain stimulant that transports the user to any reality he can imagine. He's soon addicted to this fantasy enabler—and it isn't long before Cardigan is accused of dealing. When he fails to convince the mechanized jury of his innocence, the state strips his badge and sentences him to fifteen years in suspended animation.

Four years later, he's awakened. His sentence has been changed, but no one will tell him why. Cardigan's search for answers takes him to Mexico, where a rogue scientist is attempting to rid the world of Tek. But these efforts have roused powerful enemies. Aiding this quest is the right thing to do, but for an ex-con, doing good can be the most dangerous decision of all.

Includes an exclusive Q&A between William Shatner and Jeffrey Kafer.

TekWar

Fast and sleek, TekWar is a no nonsense cyber punk thriller. It’s well written and a lot of fun. I read it many years ago and the narrator is great. Highly recommend.

A fun mixture of Mike Hammer and sci-fi

I bought this book when it first came out, and loved it. I am happy to report that it holds up very well. The story reads like Mike Hammer in the future. A PI story with some violence, some romance and some intrigue... but not a very satisfying conclusion in my eyes. They knew they were going to start a series, and wanted to drag us along I guess. The narrator was great. He had a Joe Friday type quality, which I found suited the story very well, but he could alternate with accents and dialects when needed. I thought he was perfect for this book. I had (probably still have) the entire series when it was being released, and I look forward to listening to them all again now.

Great to finally have this unabridged

Great to finally have an unabridged version of this available and can’t wait for the next book to become available. I have read all the books and loved the stories. Now I can listen to them on a road trip. The performance on these is good. I use The Harry Potter books as the gold standard. This falls a little short of that but nothing really wrong with the performance. It was well read and kept my attention just not the different voices for each character. Still I would recommend it. Looking forward to the next one.

No wonder it was on sale

The story and sci fi are nonsense. The characters are over-the-top in a not funny way. I just had to give up. It’s just not worth the time.
