About this listen

The internationally recognized teacher, speaker, and New York Times best-selling author of A Return to Love argues that our desire to avoid pain is actually detrimental to our lives, disconnecting us from our deepest emotions and preventing true healing and spiritual transcendence.

Marianne Williamson is a best-selling author, a world-renowned teacher, and one of the most important spiritual voices of our time. In Tears to Triumph, she argues that we - as a culture and as individuals - have learned to avoid facing pain. By doing so we are neglecting the spiritual work of healing.

Instead of allowing ourselves to embrace our hurt, we numb it, medicate it, dismiss it, or otherwise divert our attention so that we never have to face it. In refusing to acknowledge our suffering, we actually prolong it and deny ourselves the opportunity for profound wisdom - ultimately limiting our personal growth and opportunity for enlightenment. Frozen by denial, we are left standing in the breach. Whole industries profit from this immobility, and while they have grown rich, we have become spiritually poorer.

As Marianne makes clear, true healing and transcendence can come only when we finally face our pain and wrestle with what it has to teach us. Written with warm compassion and profound wisdom, Tears to Triumph offers us a powerful way forward through the pain, to a deeper awareness of our feelings, our lives, and our true selves.

Moving, transforming and inspiring

If you could sum up Tears to Triumph in three words, what would they be?

Moving, Transforming, Inspiring

What was one of the most memorable moments of Tears to Triumph?

The moment when Williamson describes the power of empathy.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, I listened to this book over time, while walking, doing every day errands and at night. I soaked it in over a few days, not all at once. I found it helpful to meditate on the teachings.

Any additional comments?

This book helped me so much to make sense of suffering, at a really challenging time in my life. I now feel equipped to face future challenges powerfully and without being weighed down into inaction.

All should read this -- but especially women!

What did you love best about Tears to Triumph?

Love Marianne's no-nonsense language and personal voice.
You feel as though she is speaking directly to you.
I think most people, but especially women over 30, will really find this book resonates with them and their life experiences.

What did you like best about this story?

It is real. She doesn't mince words, she is compassionate when necessary and forthright when necessary. I also really liked the intermingling of prayers throughout within the context of what she was discussing.
Found several of those to be very powerful and meaningful.

Any additional comments?

It would be very interesting to do a study where this book was given as required reading to 4 or 5 different groups of people:
Teens
Late 20's
Mid 30's &
late 40's/early 50's.,
and Over 65.
I'd LOVE to hear the discussions that would ensue within each group
and what their key takeaways are.

First half life-changing second half terrible

Ok I LOVED THE first half with her beautiful now aging with lovely wisdom voice that has seen dents. Look spiritual gurus that are young and quadrillionaires just don't get that there is pain. You have to acknowledge that but be reminded that negative thoughts that repeat just downward spiral you. The first half of the book is real and VERY applicable but unfortunately half way through Williamson deviates into preaching the Ten Commandments and telling us why murder is bad and what Moses went through. I no longer can listen U.K. This book but the first half was mind blowing and I REALLY get why thinking bad thoughts about a boob head downer guy in my life merely cosmicly imprisons me. Get the book for the first half.

Definitely a mindshift

It challenged my thinking as a Christian and a Leader. I have never been hurt as I was and in searching for a solution stumbled upon this book. I listened twice and have to do it again. I'm working on some spiritual disciplines and hoping to resurrect from all this pain and really apply this.

Forgiveness chapter was awesome!

Exceptionally written (and read on Audible) by Marianne Williamson. If you ever wonder how to carry on in this sometimes hard world we live in, grab a copy of this book or listen on Audible. I particularly liked the chapter on forgiveness but the whole book merits attention and contemplation. When I finished it, my heart felt lighter and I was more grounded to the purpose of living.

Beautiful

I wish she would have been my introduction to God/Spiritual world instead of through catechism with nuns that taught me humans are evil (thru teaching and MODELING their behavior), we were all sinners going to Hell because of a very punishing God. I thank you so much for this book. I can't stop listening to it and praying the prayers with you.
