Editorial reviews

Richard Davidson's deep, assertive voice lends a sense of authenticity to Tom Browning's revelatory tales of pitching for the post-"Big Red Machine" Cincinnati Reds in the 1980s.

At one point, Browning admits to feeling a childlike awe when listening to his then-manager Pete Rose tell stories of the halcyon days of the 1970s, and Davidson elicits a similar feeling in the listener with his dynamic and stirring performance.

Historic moments in Reds history, such as Browning's 1988 perfect game, are brought vividly to life by the talented Davidson.

too much about browning

good read but a bit disappointed because i wanted to hear more stories about the reds and not particular stories that all (or at least it seems that way) involved something about tom browning. he was a great player...good "RED"...but there was more to the reds than him.

Fun for Reds fans

As a Cincinnati Reds fan I really enjoyed this Tom Browning story. Thankfully not a "tell all" book, but a book that celebrates the fun that baseball brings to its participants and to its fans. It was a joy to follow the career Tom from the early days of moving up in the system, to making it to the majors, triumphs and tragedies and the winding down and aftermath of his baseball life. Stories with Pete Rose, Tony Perez, Bo Diaz, Barry Larkin and many others. Recapping the 1990 "wire to wire" season was particularly enjoyable but the entire book was very entertaining.

The narration was good but a few of the name pronunciations threw me for loop a couple times but not enough to cause any permanent damage.

Great memories

A must read for anybody who grew up a Reds fan like myself in the 70s 80s and 90s. Fun remembering players I had forgot all about.

Misleading

As a Reds fan I expected stories about the Cincinnati Reds, but about half way through the book it suddenly became all about Browning's perfect game. Sure it's a big deal, but he should have titled the book "My Perfect Game and other stories from the Reds dugout"
