Publisher's summary

Hannah Kent and Oliver Jennings pledged their hearts to each other as children. Now, years later, Hannah is thrilled to receive an invitation to spend the summer at Oliver’s family’s country estate. The path to wedded bliss is clear - so long as Oliver’s highbrow older brother, Damon, has ceased his juvenile antics, Hannah’s future looks bright indeed.

But from the moment Hannah arrives at Summerhaven, nothing is as she expected. Oliver seems disinterested in renewing their acquaintance, and Damon is not the brutish boy she remembers but a man intent on avoiding marriage. Although she has loathed Damon her whole life, when he contrives a ruse designed to win them both what they desire, Hannah warily agrees. All she has to do to reclaim Oliver’s attention is pretend to be madly in love with Damon. But when Damon is surprisingly convincing in his role as a suitor, it proves difficult to discern the line between pretense and true love.

Loved it!

I purchased the book to read while I was traveling to the British Isles. It was so enjoyable that when I came home, I bought the audio version and just finished listening.
It is a cute in the beginning. I thought it was too predictable, but then there were plots and twists that I didn’t expect but like all good love stories it had a happy ending that I enjoy. Highly recommend for some light fun reading. I’m looking forward to this author future books.

Perfectly romantic

Loved this story! The main characters were easy to love and root for. The narrator did a fabulous job as well. This will become a repeat listen for me.

Romantic and beautifully done

I love this story of old friends, remembered times, and growing up. I love Hannah and Damon and, although I am happy with the outcome, I have a feeling there may be more stories to tell from these characters.

The narration was beautifully done, and I highly recommend this book

Very good clean romance but a bit too long

A very good historical romance. Started out really strong with good character development and plot. It just started to seem a bit too long is all.

Hannah is a clergyman’s daughter who grew up playing as children with Ollie and Damon. Damon is the heir to an earldom and Ollie is the second son and Damon’s younger brother. When they were children, Ollie promised Hannah that he would marry her. She and her father moved away but Hannah never forgot Ollie’s promise and she believed she loved Ollie and they wrote to each other over the years. But Ollie stopped writing eventually. One day Ollie and Damon’s mother wrote to Hannah to invite Hannah to come visit. Hannah believes it was Ollie’s idea and that Ollie is finally going to marry her. But instead Ollie treats her like crap while Damon is kind to her. She and Damon start a fake courtship to supposedly make Ollie jealous. Instead Hannah begins to see that Damon really cares for Hannah and always did.

The plot keeps going and going and hits on a bunch of different regency romance tropes in addition to the fake courtship plot line. There is a somewhat bratty rival woman but she and Hannah end up friends. There is a plot line about the tenants and the estate. It’s a very good book but started to seem a little bit too long. I would recommend it though. I thought it was better than average.

Also it’s clean and sweet so no smut which was nice.

Best I've read in a while

Perfect length. A sweet story was just what I needed. I really enjoyed the
characters. The author's writing reminds me a bit of Julianne Donaldson, which is a compliment I think! had some fun unexpected surprises which I appreciated.

The main character is hard to grow in me.

The performance lacked the range between female and male characters. And the female character is a bit childish, pretentious, and couldn’t keep a secrete then kept too much secret towards to the end. The supporting male character whined too much, but at the end made a sudden change.
