About this listen

Summer Bright is just a name on a tombstone. A whispered mystery on the long-forgotten Woodbury Lane. Her ghost teases me with fear and perfection. She knows I'm not strong enough to do what I should've done years ago.

The Bullets are united once more, bonded by their demand for blood. There's a vulnerability in their friendship though. Gavriel craves control. Blaise fears losing me. Ryker fights his guilt. Callum's moral compass will get us killed.

Chesterbrook may be where the old me died, but it's also where I learned that hell isn't a place: It's a person. And if we aren't careful, our plan for revenge could go up in smoke.

The second one gets better and more complicated

This is the second of three books...continues right from the first one and dives deeper into the complex relationship of Sunshine and her 4 men. Each has his own personality which grows more complex and you cannot help falling in love with each of them. Worth the listen as Jo Raylan is phenomenal in the narration and love male narration of each of the men....

redhat queen

This second book was just a fantastic as the first book. You left a real cliffhanger in this one. Now I have to finish listening to last book to find out what is going to happen to Summer and the Bullets. Great narrators. Jo puts so much feeling in her telling of this story.

Best cliffhanger ever!

WHAAAAT?! OMG You can't stop right there!! Aaaaaaaargh!

Well, I knew it was a cliffhanger ending, but damn, it was a really good one!

I'm loving this series! It's going to be one of my favorites this year, assuming the ending is a satisfying HEA of sorts.

Let's go find out... Off to start book 3!

Excellent continuation

Summer and Smoke is the second book in The Bullets series and continues right where book 1 left off. The Bullets are all reunited in this novel and the story will have you hooked from beginning to end. It takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions and non stop action with these fascinating characters. The story was gripping and engrossing and a fantastic continuation to the series.
I listened to the audiobook version of this novel which was narrated by Jo Raylan and Benjamin D Walker. These two continued to do an excellent job with the narration. They had excellent pace and timing and really brought the story to life. It was a pleasure listening to them narrate this novel.

Another Winner!

This series just keep getting better. The suspense and action kept my attention. I love, love, love Gabrielle and his controlling self. Things start to really heat up in this book. I also love Sunshine's best friend Nix. Narrators did a great job.

Jo Raylan breaths life into Sunshine

Summer Bright is dead, a name on a tombstone. But Sunshine lives. And she's back with the Bullets. They are all together again, all focused on bringing her father down. It's turning out to be harder than they thought because he's protected by Santobello who is determined to take back Gavriel's business. But when Paul Bright reveals one last secret he brings out the darkness of the most reluctant Bullet and his fate is sealed. Unfortunately, there is collateral damage.

I didn't love this second book as much as the first one. I felt like it moved too slowly; like maybe this series could have been better as two books instead of three and we wouldn't have so much time waiting for the next move. I also felt like Sunshine was a bit too lost in her own head way too much of the time. I would have preferred time between her and the guys rebuilding their relationships to her lost in her thoughts. It still feels that there's such reluctance and distance between her and the guys. They are devoted to her but do they like her, love her? Not the girl she was, but the woman she is. They think she's beautiful, they loved her as teens, but do they even really know her now? Are they in love with the idea of Sunshine? Are they following Gav? And the scene Nyx created for Sunshine and Blaise was not for me. It may not be cheating and it was consensual but that's not my idea of love. I would love more between all of them beyond sex and memories.

I have to give a nod to Uncle Joe. Love this grumpy man and his Mrs. Joe. I wanted to adopt him myself.

I look forward to the final book. I'm hoping the Sunshine who survived for years on her own finds her place among the Bullets. I want to see more of the girl who stood up to Callum and less of the self-doubting victim. Enough with the counting, own this world. Take your place beside the Bullets.

Jo Raylan and Benjamin D. Walker did a great job. Jo especially had a unique sound. She showcased the self-doubt and weakness Sunshine felt for the majority of the book while still making us believe there is a spark waiting to ignite within her.
