About this listen

A new ship. A young crew. A dream job gone horribly wrong.

When circumstances drive Zoya and Natalya to accept an offer from the most powerful organization in the Western Annex, it looks like their ship - literally - comes in. The job fails to live up to its promise and the pair soon find themselves fighting for their lives against a booby trapped ship and its unseen master.

Will they unmask their enemies and survive their suicide run?

Written in Nathan Lowell's popular Trader's Tales and Seeker's Tales universe.

These are wonderful stories! Be sure to start with the first book, Quarter Share and proceed from there. I think this is something like the twelfth? I am dying for the next one to be available in March. Then I will have to wait a long time to see if he writes more. I am dearly hoping the next three after that will be about Natalie & Zoya on the new ship with Ishmael & Pip. I would like to see Zoya and Pip get married, but something tells me there will be stormy intermittent love with Natalie and Ish. And of course, the important part: leadership and adventure in the "deep dark" because, as Joss Whedon said,

"Take me out to the black,
Tell them I ain't comin back.
Burn the land and boil the sea,
You can't take the sky from me."

Makes me wish I'd had more ship time. I could have stayed for another term, and rode Nitze back from the NAG, through Suez, but I had class ashore and wanted to spend a week in London, on my way home. I wish Pickle and I could do a quarter together, on a carrier, but she could not do that until she retires from her shore job. Safe journey, readers! ;-)

It gets a bit confusing at points though. I’m not always sure I’ve gotten the through line. But isn’t that how life works? :D

Good, fast moving tale

Nathan Lowell has once again taken me out to the stars. His vision of the future reminds me that while things change, people don't.

I Love This Universe!

For you if you like the Politics and the machinations of bureaucracy at play in space

I love Lowell's descriptive views of space. and his characters come to life as I listen.

but please, can we have less of 'Zoya said' or 'Natalya said' or muttered.

the voices are different enough that the listener can distinguish. and it distracts from the story.

waiting for the next book.

another Lowell deep space novel

Nathan is on a roll with this series. An easy read. If you want unbridled sex and violence, this book is NOT for you. This book, and series, is pretty laid back with just enough action to keep it moving along.

It is well performed.

I enjoyed the book so much, I'm going to grab a cup of coffee and start the third book in this series.

And, the other Clipper series that starts with "Quarter Share" is another excellent series of six books by Nathan Lowell. It takes place in the same time and location as this series. I recommend you read them all.

Nathan is as awesome as ever. He has a great story that sucks you in, holds you against your will and leaves you very satisfied for being kept that way. You always hope for the next book/installment/or new read or listen in this case. Emily did a fantastic job. Her annunciation was spot on, voices were awesome, and she gave the ear a wonderful treat. I look forward to hear more books read by her.
