About this listen

"What could go wrong?"—four words MBA student Marcos Oliveira ignored when he accepted a prestigious internship at Reedweather Media, a subsidiary of the legendary Sandeke Telecom empire.

What did go wrong? Everything.

And when Marcos stumbles upon incriminating documents that signal corporate espionage against Sandeke’s son Martin, he suspects his strange intern wormhole has just exploded into chaos. When his alluring boss Eva draws him in to thwart the plot, he knows it.

After spending their lives overcoming adversity, can Marcos and Eva handle this latest threat? Even more perilous might be their losing battle against forbidden attraction. His Ivy League education didn’t prepare him for spy games and illicit flames. Good thing he has the street smarts to work for it.

Street Smart is a full-length workplace romantic comedy and can be read as a standalone. Book 1 in the Work For It series, Educated Romance World, Penny Reid Book Universe.

This author has a great sense of humor. I listened to some parts several times just to laugh.
The narrators were great with a few small exceptions. It was sometimes difficult to know if the characters were only thinking what was said or saying their thoughts out loud. With the level of sense of humor in the story either could be the case. This did not detract at all but is only an observation.

Awesome Sense of humor

Corporate spy games and a slow-burn workplace romance, what’s not to love?! The story is funny, thoughtful, and genuinely sweet. The MCs, Marcos and Eva come from different backgrounds, each with their own struggles and victories. While they each fight inequality in the workplace, they must work together to thwart espionage plots by the higher-ups. Street Smart is cute, snort-laugh funny, and unique. This steamy/sweet romance was even better than I anticipated!

There are some fun & cleverly devised Pennyverse character cameos! I love character follow-ups. Catching up with Martin and Caitlin did not disappoint!

Great performances from Marnye Young and Gomez Pugh bring this story to life. Gomez Pugh is a new-to-me narrator. I really enjoyed his performance and look forward to hearing more of his narrations! I have listened to many of Marnye’s works with Smartypants and I adore her narration styles! She is such a vibrant talent, it’s always fun to hear her character choices!

Marcos & Eva are everything!!

I came across the second book in the series first and sounded cool, but saw it was part of a series, so I read this one first. The story line was just ok, though I saw potential. I also wish there was less sex and cursing. I think that was what mainly turned me off to this book. The only saving grace were the narrators who were great. Super bummed I used a credit for this title. I’d recommend you borrow from a library instead of paying for this book.

Total Bummer
