Publisher's summary

In this instalment in the number one New York Times best-selling series, Mercy Thompson must face a deadly enemy to defend all she loves....

My name is Mercedes Athena Thompson Hauptman, and I am a car mechanic. And a coyote shape-shifter...and the mate of the Alpha of the Columbia Basin werewolf pack.

Even so, none of that would have gotten me into trouble if, a few months ago, I hadn't stood upon a bridge and taken responsibility for the safety of the citizens who live in our territory. It seemed like the thing to do at the time. It should have only involved hunting down killer goblins, zombie goats and an occasional troll. Instead, our home was viewed as neutral ground, a place where humans would feel safe to come and treat with the fae.

The reality is that nothing and no one is safe. As generals and politicians face off with the Gray Lords of the fae, a storm is coming, and her name is Death.

But we are pack, and we have given our word. We will die to keep it.

Darker than previous novels.

The latest in the series of Mercy Thompson, was a lot more intense than some of the previous novels.
More time was spent on the evil side of the dark witches and the accompanying use of pain and torture to fuel their magic.

As always, Lorelei King narrated the book wonderfully.

Love, love, love this book

This book is part of the Mercedes Thompson series. I love every book from this series, the story line is only enhanced by the narrator. I can't wait for the next book.

Didn’t like the political references, ruined the book for me unfortunately

I have always really enjoyed Patricia Briggs books and have read all on them, but am feeling a bit betrayed as a result of her writing Adam as pro Republican/ Trump and the bland acceptance that ”all politicians are liars” which seemed like apologist behaviour for the ultimate political lair Trump. It really threw me and I found it a struggle to engage with the rest of the book as a result. I doubt I will read her again because I can’t be sure she won’t do more of the same in future books. Have lost trust.
