About this listen
Starting from Scratch is an autobiographical account of how the author found himself involved in the world of scratch DJing. From experimenting with record players and other devices that made interesting sounds as a young boy in the 1970s, right through to him becoming a UK champion DJ in the 2020s. This is a tale full of amazing coincidences and chance meetings spanning over five decades. A story of a kid that was born with the gift of rhythm and creativity, but had no suitable outlet to display them, as the art form he was destined to practice was yet to be conceived.
His love for drumming and football as a child would be an early indicator that his sense of rhythm and competitiveness would eventually lead him into the exciting world of hip-hop culture as an adult.
Big life changes directed him to a pathway that led him to experience the adventures that would guide him to a hobby that would become his destiny.
“This art form that we call turntablism found me; I didn’t go looking for it. I just wanted to play football and bang drums.”

From humble beginnings in Middlesex, where money was scarce but dreams were encouraged, to the award-winning godfather of electronica, Gary Numan has seen it all. The first: a stratospheric rise to success quickly followed by a painful decline into near obscurity. The second: a 20-plus year renaissance catalysed by a date with a super-fan. (R)evolution is the rollercoaster rise and fall (and rise) of one man, several dozen synthesisers, multiple issues and two desperately different lives.

Story
From the Mod revolution and the British Invasion of the 1960s, through the psychedelic era of the 1970s, and into the exuberance and excesses of stadium rock in the 1980s, Kenney Jones helped to build rock and roll as we know it. He was the beat behind three of the world's most enduring and significant bands. He wasn't just in the right place at the right time. Along with Keith Moon, John Bonham, and Charlie Watts, Jones is regarded as one of the greatest drummers of all time.

Meet Phil Collen. You may know him as the lead guitarist in Def Leppard, whose signature song "Pour Some Sugar on Me" is still as widely enjoyed as when it debuted in 1988. Maybe you've heard of him as the rock star who gave up alcohol and meat more than 25 years ago. Most likely you've seen him shirtless - in photos or in real life - flaunting his impeccably toned body to appreciative female fans.

Story
Bob Mould stormed into America's punk rock scene in 1979, when clubs across the country were filling with kids dressed in black leather and torn denim, packing in to see bands like the Ramones, Black Flag, and the Dead Kennedys. Hardcore punk was a riot of jackhammer rhythms, blistering tempos, and bottomless aggression. And at its center, a new band out of Minnesota called Hüsker Dü was bashing out songs and touring the country on no money, driven by the inspiration of guitarist and vocalist Bob Mould. Their music roused a generation.
