Publisher's summary
Having saved the Federation one more time in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, Capt. James T. Kirk and the crew of the USS Enterprise have finally gone their separate ways. Spock, McCoy, Sulu and the others are spread out across the galaxy, pursuing their individual destinies - until an interstellar crisis touches all their lives.
Bored with retirement and ill-suited to teaching at Starfleet Academy, Kirk jumps at the chance to help his nephews colonize an uninhabited planet in a distant corner of the Alpha Quadrant. He even manages to persuade Scotty and Chekov to come along for the ride.
But Kirk soon discovers that the hardy human colonists are not alone on the planet they call Sanctuary. An alien race, of whom little is known, has also established an outpost on Sanctuary for its own mysterious reasons. Suspicious, Kirk investigates, only to discover a terrifying threat that strikes at the security of the entire Federation.
Light-years from Starfleet Command, without a ship or a crew to call his own, Kirk thinks he faces the menace alone. Yet the bonds of loyalty transcend even the awesome distances of space, bringing together a legendary crew for one final, fantastic adventure.

For years, Starfleet Intelligence agents have carried out undercover assignments deep within the Klingon Empire. Surgically altered and rigorously trained in Klingon culture, they operate in plain sight and without any direct support, while collecting information and infiltrating the highest levels of imperial power. Their actions have given Starfleet valuable insight into the inner workings of Klingon government and its relentless military apparatus. When Klingon commander Kruge died in combat against James T. Kirk on the Genesis planet back in 2285, he left behind a powerful house in disarray - and a series of ticking time bombs: the Phantom Wing, a secret squadron of advanced Birds-of-Prey; a cabal of loyal officers intent on securing his heritage; and young Korgh, his thwarted would-be heir, willing to wait a Klingon lifetime to enact his vengeance.

The Last Roundup/The Last Hoorah
After listening to this Audiobook I was impressed. While it is not a GREAT book, it is a very good book. Well written and well read no Star Trek fan, Trekkie nor Trekker will be disappointed with this book in either paper or audio formats

For Original Star Trek Series Fans Only
This is a good "Star Trek" story but not great. The audiobook is an easy listen and the story line keeps your interest but probably only if you are a fan of the original series. The story has no great depth, the new characters are fairly superficial and it assumes you already know the background of the original series characters.
