About this listen

One moment a man sits on a suburban hill, gazing curiously at the stars. The next, he is whirling through the firmament, and perhaps the most remarkable of all science fiction journeys has begun. Even Stapledon's other great work, Last and First Men pales in ambition next to Star Maker which presents nothing less than an entire imagined history of life in the universe, encompassing billions of years.

Read like a cross between a text book and scripture. Many parts were very interesting. I can see how many sci-fi writers who followed would have been influenced by this work. No story to speak of - not in the traditional sense. With the benefit of many decades of thinking and written works since this book was first published, many of the ideas expressed - or rather, introduced - by author no longer "hold water".

Interesting but tedious

beautifully written, wonderfully narrated.

It reminded me of the Divine comedy and it's scope and it's conclusion but in a sci-fi rapper and sold with such wonderful philosophy.

this book made me a wiser person

Starmaker affords the reader one possible view of the grandeur of reality, which is beautiful in its ultimate simplicity, even if the human brain will never be able comprehend the finer details.

If you could sum up Star Maker in three words, what would they be?

No dialogue but full of ideas and imagination.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Star Maker?

The stars turning on the inhabitants of the galaxy.

A fantastic Read

how can some of the best storytelling I've ever heard have no plot, actual characters, or even a timeline?

I don't really have an answer to this question, but it doesn't make it any less phenomenal. dwarfs the scale of every piece of science fiction I've ever read.

incredible book

This is the ultimate out of body experience. If you read this as purely science fiction, then you might miss the deeper meaning. For me this is the most fantastic, most adventurous, grandest out of body travel story i have ever read. I thank Frederic Dodson for recommending this book in his "levels of energy" book. What a story!!!

It’s honestly hard to explain how I felt after listening to this story. If I could some it up in a word, I think ‘humbled’ would most nearly describe it. Satisfyingly so, to be sure, but my mind has definitely melted a bit. In a good way, though. I sort of felt the same way I did after seeing Inception for the first time.

Definitely recommend to fans of first contact/general alien encounter sci fi.

Very thought-provoking.

My Salute to Olaf Stapledon,
I Found Star Maker the most inspiring and inspired book I have read thus far in my life's experience! Call me mad if you wish, but, by the way this book is written and by the language used to describe this adventure, I may discern that this adventure really did happen through means of the imagination of Olaf Stapledon! If you are on the path to enlightenment, then I must sincerely urge you to see this perspective. It is beyond most's ability to imagine and will take you on a wild ride through the universe! I also must note that at the time this was written, there was not the level of knowledge we have today, there was many times less. I Urge You to read this account of a true journey through the depths of the Sea of Imagination! Are You Up For It?

The Most Inspired Book I Have Read Yet!!!

I definitely would recommend this work to people that would be open to go on a cosmic tour of the imagination. This book definitely needs to be adapted into a visual medium, perhaps similar to a mind's eye or cosmos. I wasn't really blown away by anything content-wise but I did enjoy the experience.

Remarkable for the time
