About this listen

AJ Beckett is just trying to get Parker, her seven-year-old autistic daughter, through life in one piece. As a paramedic, AJ puts others' needs above her own; in her personal life, she keeps everyone an arm's length away. That distance disappears when a chance run-in with actor Melanie Cooper leaves her sticky, angry, and fed up.

Melanie Cooper has just signed her last movie. The media keeps portraying her as cold and hard to work with, and Mel has absolutely nothing more to give. As she begins to imagine a new life, a challenging part of her past comes back on the scene, determined to cause problems for Mel.

After a series of coincidental meetings, AJ battles her desire for control while Mel struggles with trust. Despite the challenges and complications, Mel finds herself drawn to the Beckett ladies, and AJ can't deny their connection, either.

Falling in love has never been so sweet.

Wonderful

Stars: 5 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Narrator: Abby Craden
Series: Stand Alone
Steam Level: Steamy

I read this for the I Heart Sapphic 2025 Reading Challenge for the prompt Rich Girl/Poor Girl.

I first read this book back in 2023 and then promptly bought every book Violet Morely had written and now always preorder her future releases. She is just that good.

Quick Thoughts:
- Something I appreciate about Violet Morley’s book is how often she incorporates characters who are neurodivergent or have to navigate a mental illness. How these things are treated as just another part of the character as a person, and not as something bad about them, is wonderful
- Age gap and single parent tropes! Yay!
- Mel is such a great character. I love how naturally giving she is and how she genuinely doesn’t expect anything in return because she’s happy to give
- Absolutely loved how AJ is aware , and works, on how she interacts with Parker so that PARKER is the one that is comfortable and gets what she needs
- Thank goodness for low angst books. I needed that
- Two adults that communicate and TELL each other when they need the other to do so. Perfect
- I really wanted to smack the dude from the center and the art dealer, then run Rebecca over with my car
- No third act break up!
- The epilogue was so sweet I happily got a cavity listening to it
- I hadn’t planned to reread this lovely book in 2025 but when I saw that the amazing Abby Craden was the narrator, I immediately snatched it up. She does a wonderful job here (of course)

Overall I loved this book just as much the second time as I did the first time. If you are interested in reading something by Violet Morley, this is a great entry into her works. The best part is that she just gets better from here on out.

Loved this story!

It was well-written & included an autistic child & a possibly low spectrum autism adult.
Was wishing it wouldn't end!

A must listen!

Listening to this book feels like rewatching your favorite comfort show! I just finished listening to it for the second time in a year and I can confirm that it was just as good the second time. This book features healthy dialogue, incredibly thoughtful and kind characters, and an interesting story line. It’s a slow burn but it feels right for the characters and the spice is good once it gets there. This book also features people on the autism spectrum in a way that warmed my own neurodivergent soul. Also a slight spoiler… but there is no major breakup type conflict which is honestly one of the reasons that this is my new favorite comfort read! And if this hasn’t convinced you to give it a listen yet its narration by Abby Craden is absolutely top notch! She really does bring this book to life. You really should give this book a try I promise you won’t want it to end!

Stars

This was a new author to me and I loved every word. From the autistic child to the mom and even the star. Not too much angst which I like. Abby Craden is the best narrator. A very good romcom.

Delightful Story

Loved everything about this audio! Fantastic story by Violet Morley. Looking forward to future works by this author. Abby Craden’s voice for Parker was everything. No spoilers but that Rebecca is a real piece of work!!!! There’s been a lot of amazing books that have been matched with terrible narrators of late honestly speaking. Grateful this authors masterpiece didn’t meet that same fate. Highly recommend because of Abby Craden of course but story really is a good one. Worth a listen for sure.

Loved it

I don’t think I listened to any Violet Morley book before, so this was a great experience. And I am sure that the narration of Abby Craden helped it quite a bit.
