Publisher's summary

A Primarchs Anthology

The primarchs, nigh-immortal sons of the Emperor of Mankind, take the stage in a series of short stories showcasing some of their great deeds and hideous acts from across the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

Whether you see them as heroes, villains, or victims of the Emperor's machinations, these tales will give you a different perspective on a host of primarchs – including Angron, Vulkan, Magnus the Red, and Horus himself.

DESCRIPTION

From their shadowed origins to the desperate battles that ensued when half of their number rebelled against their father, the sons of the Emperor – the vaunted primarchs – were among the mightiest champions of the nascent Imperium, warriors without peer, and heroes whose actions became legend. Whether you seek the angel Sanguinius, who confronted the dark nature of his bloodthirsty Legion, or mighty Vulkan, whose connection to humanity set him apart amongst his brothers, or dour Perturabo, architect, inventor and murderous warlord, or even Horus Lupercal, whose shining light was eclipsed only by the darkness that grew within his soul – this anthology covers eight of the primarchs and their greatest, darkest deeds.

Great Anthology

Probably my favorite Warhammer anthology. mostly set in the Great Crusade era, some post-heresy without a definitive year or era.

Better than 1/2 the Primarch Novels

It’s wild that half these short stories are better and more thought out than half the stand alone Primarch Novels.

fantastic voice acting, great 30k/40k lore pieces

Absolutely thrilled Chris Tester is voice acting for Black Library. More 40k narrations from this guy, please.

solid collection of stories

this collection is likely most well known for the popular short story, The Ancient Awaits, but I wouldn't advise anyone skip any other story to get there. There are no duds here. All stories contain a satisfying peek into the mind, makings, or methods of a primarch.

Really Good

Half the stories are from the great crusade and half from the hours heresy I highly recommend it especially if you're trying to go through it all in chronological order

Personality is Key

To start; the narrator is just amazing. From what I gather he’s newer to the Black Library but is taking it by storm. This reading alone was one of the very best (for reference I prefer Keeble over any other but this guy takes my #2 spot). How he gave the Nightlords their Slavic accent to how he makes you hang onto every word he speaks.

The other half is the writing for these stories. It gives the Primarchs personality that I feel we’ve lacked in the other books about them. The ‘Mercy of the Dragon’ stands out as one such example. It shows the brutality of Vulkan and his ability as a warrior while also showing that soft side that’s a token trait of the Salamanders.
Another example would be the description of Sanguinius and his constant mood of both grief and sadness mixed with a sort of care free nature despite how he feels.

Just over all an amazing listen and an amazing book.

Narrator was perfect.

The stories were good insights into the Primarchs. But the stand out was the narrator. Hoping to see more from Mr. Tester.
