About this listen
More chilling cold cases solved! Listen to the fascinating true crime stories that were solved years later thanks to modern technologies and investigation techniques.
Solving a criminal investigation is never as simple as it looks on television. With so many steps between the initial crime and the moment of conviction, the potential for a case to remain unsolved is always dangerously high. As well as those hard-to-solve minor crimes like petty theft, even the biggest and most complicated crimes have the possibility of becoming stuck at some point. So much of the process can depend upon luck that it should be no surprise to see that detectives and investigators often struggle to find that single eureka moment, that one instance of divine inspiration that might help them solve the crime.
In this book, we will be looking into some of the highest profile criminal investigations that go years without being solved. These are known as cold cases. When a case goes cold, the trail of clues runs dry and it becomes difficult to see an end point. But this book will examine those cold cases which have been solved. The murders, conspiracies, kidnappings, and other crimes contained within the book will be those which reach a satisfying conclusion. Even when everything looks bleak, either pure fortune or diligent work will be used to achieve a breakthrough.
We will travel the world to look over some of the most interesting and complicated cases which took years to solve. If you are at all interested in true crime, criminal investigations, or just examples of humans who never give up hope, then the stories contained within will be perfect for you. The true examples of cold cases in this book will take in despicable and deplorable crimes. Even when you might think the perpetrator got away, there will be one clue that finally got them convicted. So listen and discover just how some of the world's coldest cases were finally solved.
Inside find true crime stories that will captivate you, including:
- The anonymous corpse that came known as "Tent Girl"
- A murdered man who was far from innocent
- The killer who went on the run and battled against his extradition
- Trying to track a man who was perpetually on the run
- What happens when the rich and powerful protest their innocence in murder cases
- And much more!

Chilling. One of the best words to describe the cases recounted in this audiobook. These gruesome crimes seemed to hit a dead end. That is until the case was reopened for investigation years later and solved. From the more famous cases to the more obscure, the crimes and hardships that the victims had to suffer will send shivers down your spine. Notably detailing the disappearance of Chandra Levy to the multiple murders committed by Dennis Rader.

Story
There is little more terrifying than those who hunt, stalk, and snatch their prey under the cloak of darkness. These hunters search not for animals, but for the touch, taste, and empowerment of human flesh. They are cannibals, vampires, and monsters, and they walk among us. These serial killers are not mythical beasts with horns and shaggy hair. They are people living among society, going about their day-to-day activities until nightfall. They are the Dennis Rader's, the fathers, husbands, church-going members of the community.

Now, in Journey into Darkness, Douglas profiles vicious serial killers, rapists, and child molesters. He is straightforward, blunt, often irreverent, and outspoken, but takes pains not to glorify any of these murderers.

One of the worst I've tried to listen to
I found myself unable to finish listening to this. After doing my best to get past a narrator's voice that to me sounded creepy and overly-dramatic, I was stunned when the story of statutory rape and abuse of a 15/16-year old girl was presented as a consenting romance on the girl's part; after she was held captive for years and by then in her early 20s, she was still referred to as a 'young girl'. This happened with other stories as well--an adult woman repeatedly referred to as a girl, and the implicit tale of her abuse (eg, suspected murder by her husband) glossed over. In addition to all of this, only the most superficial details of any case was mentioned, so that if I knew anything about it (eg, the Unabomber), the story told left me with sort of an 'are you kidding?' feeling. Definitely one of my most disappointing purchases--not only very superficial, but offensive in its cavalier attitude towards teenage girls and young women who experienced abuse and/or murder at the hands of older men they were led to trust.
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
