Acerca de esta escucha

'I had a big cry—then I kept going'

Growing up in the Canadian Rockies, the mountains have always been home for Jenny Tough. Travelling the world, she's always discovered commonalities with mountains—and mountain people. Her major project is to run solo and unsupported across a mountain range on every continent where indigenous mountain people live isolated from the outside, urban world. Running solo and unsupported comes with obvious logistical as well as physical challenges, but running is also a common language—all people around the world do it—and it has always helped build connections across barriers of language and nationality.

Solo is the account of one woman's mission to run solo and unsupported across mountain ranges on six continents—overcoming obstacles, conquering fears and finding the joy in achieving her goals absolutely alone.

A must read all around! It was a beautiful written memoir that talks in the perfect amount of detail the authors journey and perspective. While this journey is about running mountains and traveling through different cultures, it’s more about how to be brave. Especially as a woman.

Amazing❤️

I’ve not quite done the things JT has but do similar adventures and absolutely loved her honesty and vulnerability. She’s a great writer.

Well written and relatable

For the past five days I have listened to this story by Jenny Tough. It is well read, she seems knowledgeable and able to put together a story. However, it’s so “half”. Half a story, events without conclusions, and stories without resolve- just and “that was that”.
I can save you the time and money. Jenny runs across a mountain range on each continent. And that’s it. Yes, there is peril, injury, feelings and questions she asks of herself. But her disconnect with her body, her spirit, her vulnerability and the culture of others is never reckoned with. It just made me feel empty. None of those questions and feelings are reflected on for longer than a sentence. I wish I could post a better review.

I wanted to like this.

How does a person decide to run through 5 different mountain ranges? How does a person save their own life when on the face of a cliff, or in a fast cold river, or “alone” while men help her out of danger?

Bravery

I wanted to really like this book but a good portion of the book was her just whining and then just leaving it at that. I fell asleep multiple times instead of being captivated.

Lots of Whining

The story in itself was amazing. I’m so amazed by Jenny and am so inspired and motivated by her. However, I feel like there was so much emotion in her words that did not translate to the reading of the audiobook. At first I thought I didn’t like the book much; but then I started reading the physical book and realized I loved the story but that the audio book just want for me.

Amazing Story
