Acerca de esta escucha

From USA Today and Amazon Charts best-selling author Meghan Quinn, and narrated in duet by Aaron Shedlock and Stella Hunter, comes a fresh take on a romantic-comedy classic, When Harry Met Sally. This steamy, laugh-out-loud enemies-to-lovers romance is about an annoyingly handsome coworker and the woman who refuses to be charmed by him.

Am I friends with JP Cane?

Ha! That's laughable.

Besides the fact that he’s adopted some far-fetched notion from the movie When Harry Met Sally that says men and women can't be friends and work together, it’s safe to say we're not friends. He's annoyingly loud, obnoxiously handsome, and has made an art out of poking all my hot buttons...multiple times a day.

So you can imagine how disgruntled I am when I not only have to fly to San Francisco with him for work, but stay in the same penthouse. Yup, we're sharing the same air, 24-7. We're talking full-fledged working roommates.

The man doesn't know what it means to wear a shirt, thrives off protein bars, and you guessed it, moans loud enough for people to believe he's Meg Ryan in a restaurant.

Spoiler Alert: I WON'T be having what he's having.

Tack on his continuous flirting and his polished good looks, and I'm caught staring down the barrel of a seductive temptation that makes it hard for me to sleep at night.

But guess who can control herself? This girl.

Because if there is one thing I know for certain, it's that JP Cane and I are so not meant to be.

Oh my gosh. I loved this book. Not only was it laugh-out-loud funny but genuinely sweet and sexy. I don't remember grinning like a fool more than I did while listening to this book. Jonah is one of the BEST male leads. This poor man is so infatuated throughout this book. And his pining is written in the best way. He can be rude and obstinate but deep down a giant pigeon loving cinnamon roll who really should not drink scotch ever again. I did not read the first book and it didn't really seem to matter much. Most things get explained so if you're more interested in an enemies to lovers trope over the fake dating trope of the first book you can just jump in here.

This book has some of the BEST banter. Honestly, these two drive each other crazy in all the best ways. JP loves nothing more than to irritate his brother's fiance's sister who he works with. It's a workplace romance with a guy who's basically a millionaire. She is a hopeless romantic desperately seeking her future man. The universe continually throws them together despite their objections. When a new business venture forces them to go to San Francisco and occupy the same penthouse things get interesting... Especially when they realize how paper thin those walls really are. This book is HOT. Be prepared.

Tropes!

✅ Forced proximity
✅ Enemies to friends to more
✅ Dirty 👄
✅ Drunk shananagins
✅ Jealousy
✅ He falls first

Honestly, I can't go into too much without giving away spoilers but just know that this book is hilarious, endearing and exactly what I want out of my rom coms. I can't believe how many times I legit laughed out loud or covered my eyes in embarrassment. It's been one of the best books I've read in a while.

I love the cover, the story, everything - gaw, dual narration is the best thing ever. I just have one thing that bothered me, she is louder then he is and sometimes it was hard to hear him when listening in the car. Everything else was perfect.

SO NOT MEANT TO BE is a highly enjoyable office, slow-burn tension, and enemies-to-lovers rom-com. It is so unbelievably sweet, infectious, fun and flirty, witty, laugh-out-loud dialogue, and yet sexy and emotional that it is unputdownable. Get ready to fall in love with this delicious, cocky man—Jonah (JP) Cane and the beautiful, smart, sassy woman—Kelsey Gardner, who he can’t resist. JP has part ownership with his two brothers of Cane Enterprises. Kelsey has an Eco friendly company that she is trying to expand, so she gets hired by Crane Enterprises working under JP. Kelsey believes in love and HEA’s so much so that she also has a Meant To Be Podcast where she interviews couples that are happily in love talk about how they met. JP’s reputation precedes him as a handsome, sexy billionaire playboy, but he is really a kindhearted and romantic man that no one sees. JP also thinks that men and women cannot be friends and work together. Can men and women ever truly be friends? Well, it should be noted that Kelsey thinks they can, but will she be friends with the obnoxious JP—I think not!! “So tell me, Kelsey, what are you looking for in a man?”

JP and Kelsey are forced to work together on a project away from the office. Oh boy, not only will they have to work together, but they will share the same space at the hotel penthouse. JP and Kelsey’s unexpected attraction to each other is so intense, but the chemistry like the one they have can only be denied for so long. Their chemistry leaps off the page—they are combustible. JP and Kelsey‘s battle of wits is tremendously fun—acerbic and sexy and filled with tension. Everything about them seemed too good to be true, but none of that mattered until a situation turns Kelsey’s idyllic life upside down. Find out what happened—what a conundrum! I was cheering for JP! This is the first time I read Meghan Quinn’s book, but I assure you it won’t be the last. Meghan Quinn satisfies hearts longing for laughter in her stories, and she managed to weave humorous plot lines centered on romantic ideas with artfully developed characters.

I read the ebook and listened to the audiobook at the same time, and I really enjoyed listening to Aaron Shedlock and Stella Hunter (Narrators)—they were fantastic!! I loved how each one did their own part even when it was the other person’s POV.

Loved it!

I really like the dirt between these two narrators. I didn’t know if I would like it because of her insecurities but Jonah brings out the best in her . Bravo author .

The main FMC had me stresssssssed at the end, she was so annoying for a minute there. BUT overall it turned out to be a good book. Lottie and Hux’s story is still my fave thus far. I did love JP though, total softy!!

Oh lord

Before I review the actual story, I have to give major props to the audio narrators. Meghan Quinn's books are MADE for audio. I don't know if she writes specifically for audiobooks, but the stories are just perfect for them. The humor, the banter, the characters. Just everything is perfection when we get to hear the characters bring the story to life.

So Not Meant To Be is Kelsey and JP's story. JP is brother to Huxley from the first book and Kelsey is sister to Lottie. Huxley and Lottie are a couple and now, we have some more sibling love on board. But Kelsey feels like that is crossing the lines since they work for the Cane brothers. No matter the attraction, it's just something that cannot happen.

This book had so many fun tropes for a rom com all mixed with some sexual tension and the best banter.
Workplace romance
Enemies to Friends to Lovers
Forced proximity
Siblings

I fell in love with JP and how much he was misunderstood, even when he was being kind of turd. It was like playground fodder for flirting and not knowing how to handle feelings. Then there's Kelsey. She's just looking for love and wants the everlasting love, no games. But she also has low self esteem and wonders why she isn't lovable. She was harder to get on board with, but I adored the way JP showed her what she deserved. I especially liked their time in San Francisco being friends. Those Cane brothers really know how to woo a woman after they get over being slightly jerkish. lol

A major highlight was Kelsey's podcast and getting a little bit of past Meghan Quinn couples and where their relationships started. It was like the icing on the cake and may have you looking for those stories to add to your tbr. Another fun little addition was a little something that JP does when he goes overboard in his drinking. Lets just say that he forges a special relationship with an animal that may just change his life. ;)

While the story was fun and I enjoyed these characters, the audio performance was outstanding. The duet narration is superb and makes the banter that much more exciting and believable. The back and forth is just entertaining and wild. For a heightened "reading experience" I definitely recommend listening to the audio so you can hear Stella Hunter and Aaron Shedlock knock their performances out of the park.

Do it for the pigeons! Top notch duet narration

No one writes romcom like Meghan Quinn. No one. I know I say this about each of her [audio]books, but this one is my favorite. It’s normally the female characters that are the quirky ones, but in this one it’s JP. The pigeons. O my gosh, JP with the pigeons had me dying. Y’all, this man with Kazoo (the pigeon) is life! He is so vulnerable with Kelsey. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which is the last thing you’d expect from a playboy. He chipped away at Kelsey’s walls and made her feel beautiful and loved. They balance each other out and have undeniable chemistry and connection. Kelsey’s podcast is epic. It gave us a chance to hear from some of our favorite couples from other books. The witty banter is on point as always from the romcom queen. The ‘When Harry Met Sally’ scene towards the beginning of the book… Y’all, I can’t. I’m dead. (Stands up and applauds Meghan) The steam and swoon are out of this world. Meghan sure knows how to make me blush at my desk. The dynamic between siblings and friends is always amazing, as are the character development and world building. Thank you so much to Piece of Cake Audiobooks for gifting me this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Stella Hunter and Aaron Shedlock ARE Kelsey and JP. The duet narration from them is nothing short of perfection. The timing, pace, tone, pitch, and characterizations are on point. Their voices and styles flow so naturally together. They were exemplary in navigating through all the complex emotions. To Aaron regarding that restaurant scene at the beginning – sir I am a married woman, okay. You cannot get me all flustered like that. (Fans self) Whether the moment was comedic, drunken, or heartfelt, they were flawless in their portrayals. They really brought this story to life and made it an incredible listening experience that I won’t ever forget.
