About this listen

Winter has finally broken its hold over the Kingdom - but as the snows melt, trouble springs up in its place. A dark cloud hangs over Midlan: The army has retreated behind its high walls, not a word slips out from between its gates. And rumors swirl that the King has gone mad.

Kael knows nothing of this: His sights are on the plains. But with his horrible luck following him wherever he goes, it doesn’t take long for his plan to unravel. He finds himself trapped in Gilderick’s clutches and forced to work as a slave, laboring alongside the giants - who don’t exactly welcome him. In fact, he begins to suspect that some would rather see him dead. If Kael is going to have any chance to survive, he’ll have to come up with a new plan - and quickly.

Meanwhile, Kyleigh finds herself locked in a sprint across the desert. Time presses against her: There is a force gathered in Whitebone that threatens to undo everything, should it reach the plains. But her pride blinds her to the dangers, and it isn’t long before she and her companions are lost among the towering dunes. The strange magic of the sun drains their strength, misfortune nips at their heels, but they are determined to save their friends. And so they’ll brave the desert’s every peril - be it storms or cave trolls…or flesh-eating worms.

YES YES AND YES!!!!!!

Any additional comments?

What is great about this book / series... is that their are perfect amount of character's that come to life without being overwhelming. At the same time leaving room for you to see each one of them as a large role in the story line... Keeps you wanting more...

Moronic whiny MC

Where does Slight and Shadow rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I don't like to give a ''rank'' but i enjoyed it a lot. And i mean a lot. Considering i listen to these at work, i was actually looking forward to work to find out what happens next. :)

Would you be willing to try another book from Shae Ford? Why or why not?

Yes i would, i will listen to the rest of the series. But hot damn i don't like the way she depicts stubborness of the main character in these book.

Which scene was your favorite?

No particular one, but i did enjoy the part where the queen worm blew up.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

The only ''real'' gripes for me are the fact that the characters are just oblivious to facts in front of them, whether it be about love, betrayal or being pregnant.

The amount of me going ''STOP BEING SUCH A BI***'' on the MC is is non-countable.

But yeah.
- Easy read
- Fun characters
- Lively world
- Interesting lore

I liked it

I thought it was well done and even though a bit cliché at times, I appreciated that it had the right balance of light and dark. Real life is depressing enough; I want a happy ending.

This series should never end!

Don't let the cover of the book hold you back. It did for me. I passed over it several times then finally took a chance on it. You'll fall in love with the characters as well as the adventure!

A Good Story with Great Characters

Remove the page after page of farming and you've got a truly great book. I understand what Shae was going for, but it just dragged on. I feel like I could have gone out and started a garden after reading this book. But the description and the places and the new characters. I would have reread this book if it wasn't for the filler. And we're starting to see a braver Kael and were being given a reason to really love Kyleigh.

You might also wonder why reading this book why he went to the plains in the first place. About half way through you thinking why on earth is he there. Then it get over and he leaves and you're never quite sure why he went in the first place. Almost annoying.

Good book though. Recommend the series now.
