About this listen
The past and future collide in a balance between good and evil, survival and annihilation.
The end of a decades-long intergalactic war has brought the victorious warmongering horde, the Ragnaw, to earth. Although defeated, the Obasyn race sends the human race one last chance to battle the Ragnaw plague. The Obasyn crystal wields the capability to gift beings powers of unimaginable proportions, but there can only be six of these miraculous individuals. They will have to work together to preserve humanity, but will they be enough?
With the arrival of the vicious alien species, human history as we know it will be completely distorted. Will humanity join together or die with infighting as the Ragnaw prepare their final assault against civilization?

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Exciting and thought-provoking. Strong and imaginative writing.
Six Figures: The Rising Storm" by Lamont Chatman is a thought-provoking and action-packed story that combines elements of sci-fi, dystopia, and history with contemporary issues. It explores the atrocities we tend to repeat, weaving in themes of race, warfare, status, and what it means to be human and to see each other as such.
If you've already read and enjoyed "Six Figures," you must listen to the audiobook. The initial experience was impactful, thrilling, and jarring. Revisiting the story through the audiobook years later brought back the emotions I felt when I first read the book.
The author's writing style is almost lyrical, possessing a rhythm of its own. His descriptions of warfare, loss, and the desire for vengeance and power leave the reader both exasperated and conflicted. The inversion of power and the return to the past, along with thoughtful characters dedicated to overcoming evil, create a world where conflicting interests for humanity intersect.
The Ragnaw want to destroy the earth. They are a vicious and capable alien force from another galaxy bent on destroying humanity. Upon their arrival to earth, determined to take it over, they are met with an obstacle preventing them from executing their plan. It’s here that we meet characters firmly united in their mission to save humanity not only from the Ragnaws but also to save it from itself.
We travel back in time during slavery and revisit the horrors of that period. Fast forward generations, and we can see that history is not only destined to repeat itself, but each time history is retold, we must fight harder to humanize those who have been dehumanized.
The overall premise is founded on the idea of a foreign entity invading your home and your life, and the lives of those you love, attempt to destroy your humanity, and then commodify your heritage, culture, and bodies. The collision between a historical and contemporary moral failure and aliens from another galaxy is a really good time.
The author weaves his story with sharp and believable descriptions and strategies of warfare. Of course, this is a fictional story with elements of science fiction and fantasy. However, the military strategies and deployment of action are written and expressed in an imaginable way.
The powers the Obasyn crystal possesses make sense in the context of the story. That is another feature of the writing style and storytelling that creates a realism that drives the story and the world-building.
The characters in the story are rarely morally ambiguous, which reinforces the notion that there is a clear and firm line between good and evil…depending on your perspective. Again, this is a thought-provoking, self-reflective thrill ride. The action and suspense are tempered with opportunities to place yourself in the place of the characters from your own lived worldview.
We have imaginative action, great character development, and themes that stay in the forefront of your brain as you read. I highly recommend this book.

Really interesting and thought provoking
This story of the six really grabs you from the start and doesn't let go. It's a well detailed alternate world with enough truth to make it recognizable. It's a battle of philosophy and power that keeps you guessing with every twist and turn. If you like science fiction, you'll love this.

Imaginative, Poetic, Intense
This is an intense listen. A mix of historical imagination, a hint of Octavia Butler, and some poetic moments. This was fun!

Captivating! Impossible to put down.
This was original in a way that only comes around once in a lifetime, if that. Hooks you immediately and leaves you wanting more. This kind of story telling is so lost in our modern age; it's beyond refreshing to read something that builds a nuanced fictional world in your minds eye while still honing in on realtime human experience. This is the focal point of being an avid reader - to become so immersed and lost in other worldly matters while simultaneously connecting to our truest selves. 10/10.

Draws you in!
I’m not typically an avid reader, but listening to this book has sparked a newfound interest. The storytelling and action are nothing short of exceptional, drawing you in and fueling your imagination. It’s the kind of narrative that feels cinematic, making you envision it as a film or TV series.

Very reminiscent of my favorite fantasy and sci-fi books
I really like this book. it reminds me of star wars mixed with Brandon Sanderson, Christopher Paolini, and Rebecca Yaros. Great story. I really love the immersion but not too intrusive detail!

Needs longer breaks between scenes
Great story, world building and narration.
But they need to put longer breaks between scenes. Especially with the heavy use of flashbacks and flash forwards. A scene would end and immediately run into the next scene without a break, making it confusing and hard to follow.

Cloak and Dagger.
The characters story arks are phenomenal. I found myself caring about individuals who are bad people but for their own right reasons. This is a testament to excellent writing and thoughts into building up each individual character. Not so they were some sort of NPC but a fully developed main character in their own right. The twists and turns that happen throughout the story keep the reader guessing and engaged throughout the story. I would highly recommend this to any lover of character development and world building.
