About this listen

She’s single and not interested in dating.

Sheena Gaskin hasn’t had a romantic relationship in over a decade and isn’t planning to have one now. Now she, along with her devoted dog, are making a fresh start—relocating to a Fort Worth, Texas, suburb and leaving family drama behind. A quick scan of a few familiar Facebook profiles reveals her peers celebrating major milestones like wedding anniversaries and sending kids off to college. But the never-married Sheena finds contentment and peace being single.

He’s single and dating.

Linton Oliver has most everything he’s ever wanted, except a life companion. He’s a 50-something, controversial YouTube star who’s dealing with a persistent cancel culture. He still carries around bitterness from his divorce years ago, but he hasn’t given up on finding his better half. And his neighbor Sheena has caught his eye.

Sheena insists she’s happy, and Linton contends his life needs someone else to share it with. Linton knows exactly what’s missing from his life, and Sheena can’t quite put her finger on the something—or someone—missing from hers.

Keep listening

Overall storyline was truly relatable. Narration was not good by the author. Dealing with relationships and COVID Mental health was touched on. Really appreciated Sheena's occupation because of the uniqueness.

Very Relatable

Complicated black folks issues (I’m black so don’t come for me) that created triggers and uncomfortable feelings. Author created very realistic situations in relationships which also addressed very realistic mental health issues stemming from childhood and adulthood trauma. Very relatable. I could have done without the creepy laughing from Linton. It gave me the creeps😊 Sheena has more issues than Vogue! All and all, I enjoyed the journey the author/story carried me on as a listener. Appreciate the DFW knowledge. Would love to hear more from this author.

A Little Bit of Eccentric Love

Depending on how you look at Sheena you might think she’s strange but I’d rather offer her grace and call her eccentric.
She has embraced the word “single” to the utmost and she lets everyone know her status so much so she has built what appears to be an impenetrable wall.

Enter Linton Oliver a man’s man with his own demons and desires that Sheena help him to realize. Reminiscing on their friendship from high school Linton realizes he let THE ONE get away. Now he is on a quest to gain her trust and get things set right.

With her eccentric ways will Sheena give in? Will Linton give up. Single was a really good read about friendships lost and rekindled, bitter family relationships looking for a dollop of sugar.

Robinson is one of my favorite story tellers because she can pace a story in such a way where you want it to move along BUT not end.
You did it again sister!!!!
