Moments.

Our lives are a collection of moments. Some utterly painful and full of yesterday's hurts. Some beautifully hopeful and full of tomorrow's promises.

I've had many moments in my lifetime, moments that changed me, challenged me. Moments that scared me and engulfed me. However, the biggest ones - the most heartbreaking and breathtaking ones - all included him.

I was 10 years old when I lost my voice. A piece of me was stolen away, and the only person who could truly hear my silence was Brooks Griffin. He was the light during my dark days, the promise of tomorrow, until tragedy found him. Tragedy that eventually drowned him in a sea of memories.

This is the story of a boy and girl who loved each other, but didn't love themselves. A story of life and death. Of love and broken promises.

Of moments.

5 minutes

...that’s all it took to bring them together. 5 minutes...that’s all it took to break them apart. 5 minutes...that’s all it took for them to find each other again, a perfect ending! Absolutely loved it! The trauma that the characters go through felt very real. I was there, right with them. What a book! I will be reading/audio more books by Cherry.

loved it

This story filled my heart with love, sadness and joy. When two souls connect in their youth and grow so intertwined, it faced a life creeping trauma. Love fought and won.

Dark but swoony

Brittainy C Cherry’s writing is stellar! I’ve listened to Silent Waters and Tge Air He Breathes on Audible but I need to own hard copies as well. I plan to dog ear to crap out of them!

3.4-4 Stars

When I started The Silent Waters, it was everything I had anticipated from Brittainy Cherry. Yet, around 2/3, it took some liberties that had me shaking my head in disappointment. Although it was frustrating how Maggie's mutism was handled, it was the whiplash inducing recovery that had my head spinning. Although I can suspend some belief when reading fiction, I found the recovery much too convenient. On top of that, it seemed to magically fix everything that troubled her and Brooks.

That plot point aside, I did enjoy the roots of the story and its romance. Brittainy Cherry's writing style was still as beautiful and skilled as ever. Brooks was a wonderful book hero who remained honorably consistent throughout the book. I liked that the story was relatively low angst, with most of the conflict stemming from Maggie's agoraphobia and mutism. The Silent Waters may not be my favorite book by Cherry, but it was still an interesting read.

Despite the content issues, the audio was top-notch.

Emotional, touching and just beautiful

I cried, I stomp my feet, I was excited, I was anxious, I was sad, I was happy, I laughed, I wanted to shout, I listened, I heard. I definitely feel in love with Maggie May and Brooks. All those who loved and stood by them. Their extended family and their childish life and truthful actions. A definite read. Thank you

Iffy on the Romance Genre...

I cant decide if this book belongs in the genre of romance or not when its so much more. This is an amazing book, don't get me wrong, but be prepared for deep, heavy, and not so happy from start to finish. If you are looking for a pick me up, this wont be the book for you. Our little Maggie Mae witnesses a horrific crime as a child which leaves her mute, trying to navigate the world without a voice, and without understanding from most people around her with the exception of her father and our hero Brooks. Brooks lives across the street from Maggie Mae and although these childhood sweethearts are destined from the start to end up together, they travel a decades long weary road to find the sunshine and by that I mean you get most of the happy in the epilogue. If you're in the mood to walk a dark journey with two amazing characters who definitely deserve their HEA, then get on it, Its definitely a good read...I mean listen. ;-)

Are you ok today Maggie May?

NO! I’m dying! This book was just beautiful perfection, dammit!
The writing was really lovely and delicately traversed the inner affects of trauma and how every person experience these things differently and have different mechanisms for coping.
Maggie and Brooks’ love story was so epic - it really was a tale of two soulmates who constantly sacrificed for each other (without it feeling like a sacrifice) but then being constantly drawn back to each other no matter the fears and consequences. Even when they pushed each other away.
I normally hate it when main characters have other significant others during the course of the book, especially when a relationship was already established. Arguably the relationship started when they were 10 but then Maggie experienced trauma, Brooks became her best friend but went on to date others until he realized they have THOSE feelings for each other. They get separated again and he goes on to date other people (or possibly just one) but it’s just clear that no one can compete with Maggie. Normally this would bug me. It the fact that they are so utterly meant to be together and that there wasn’t too much time spent on the “other women” allowed me to gloss over that a bit. Nothing would have stopped Brooks from being with Maggie if she just crooked a finger. When it was Brooks’ turn to head towards rock bottom I was really afraid he would cheat on her (thank GOD he didn’t, I don’t think I could have forgiven that) but I was pleasantly surprised instead by the outcome.
I would have liked a couple of things: (1) the dates went way into the future and I’m not sure why the author couldn’t have set everything back in the past farther - maybe due to cell phones? Not sure, but it was weird talking about the year 2026 for the majority of the book. (2) I would have liked a little more about how Brooks rehabbed and managed to play again and seen how Maggie helped him with that considering how much Brooks helped her.
The narration was phenomenal throughout and man that freaking hushing is going to give ME nightmares, I’ll never hush my kids again! (Ok that’s a lie).
What a beautiful story! Worth a credit and pack the tissues!
