Publisher's summary

A minister's young widow is targeted by a small-town serial killer in the New York Times best-selling author's Southern romantic thriller.

To most people, respected clergymen like Mark Cantrell are pillars of the community, and completely beyond reproach. But their killer knows better. They are sinners of the worst kind, and they must burn on earth before they burn in hell....

Eighteen months after her husband's unsolved murder, Cathy Cantrell has returned to her Alabama home, eager to build a new life for herself and her son. But reminders of her past, like Deputy Sheriff Jackson Perdue, are everywhere. And a spate of recent deaths - each victim burned in the same horrifying manner as her husband - leave Jack and Cathy in no doubt that a serial killer is at work....

Now as a twisted killer moves in for a final, brutal act of vengeance, buried crimes are coming to light once more. And this time, justice will be swift, merciless, and as silent as the grave....

Contains mature themes.

Great story

Another great story line! However, I did not like the narrator. Sounded almost like a computer generated voice at times. And if you have your story line set in a southern state, at least use someone with a southern accent.

Great story… Poor Narration

As always, Beverly Barton nailed it. This story is well-written, full of suspense and held a twist. The narration was borderline awful. The delivery held no emotion, over-enunciated like a computer and was inconsistent in pace. If this hadn’t been a BB book, I would have stopped it in the first few paragraphs.

Interesting book

The books story line keeps you guessing. Just not sure how the Powers were really apart of this book.

Beverly Barton and Tanya Eby provide a good listening experience.

Fire is a monster, but so is the killer. Tense with red herrings. Another good story from Beverly Barton.

Narration is awful

Absolutely loved this book as I have been going thru the entire series but the narration sounded like my cars GPS AI . I hate to hurt anyone’s feelings, just sounded too robotic and if it indeed was, well then they need to revise it. Love these books and doesn’t keep me from listening!

Likes: story was amazing!!!
Dislikes: narrator!! Fake southern accents are the worst!!! These were awful, but because I loved the story, I listened to the end.

unbelievablely bad story, horrible narrator

First off, the story is supposed to be around 2007 in a small southern town, where everyone knows everyone and they are all really regelious, so the story is filled over done stereotype. The narrator voice is grating and her southern accents are terrible. Then the plot is just unbelievable and down right stupid. But if you like love stories where the gal gets her true love combined with a ridiculous murder mystery, then this might be enjoyable. But the death by fire in the righteous name of God while everyone is a sinner and hypocrite becomes annoying. The author tries to keep you guessing the identity of the killer with clues that other characters are the murderer but of course the character that appears to be least likely to kill is the killer. You u just know it. all along and the twists that trying to throw you off her identity becomes annoying. The worse part of the story is the stereotypical belief that everyone in a small southern town is overly judgemental, religious and out of touch with modern times is stupid. Just not true anymore, as life is complex and stupid stereotypes like in this story just help to cause division in our country.
