About this listen

Evil breeds evil.

After Kerrick Khumalo's wife is murdered in their home, he migrates from Africa to America for better opportunities. But his thick accent and dark skin makes him unaccepted. Unable to find legal employment, he discovers that the drug trade can be a lucrative business for the man who is willing to do anything, including kill. Self-possessed, he quickly rises to the top and becomes the most fearful man in Baltimore. Desiring it all, he marries a woman who gives him many children, and now he has a clan of his own.

In the country illegally, he changes his last name to Prophet and adopts rigid beliefs and customs. Soon, he develops a seething hate toward Americans and believes his bloodline should remain pure. So he encourages his children to breed amongst themselves. Year after year, he controls his family with an iron fist, and they all fear him. That is until Nine is born.

Forced to live secluded in the Prophet mansion, her future appears doomed. Besides, her mother's mental condition makes her a bad parent, and her father is too concerned with his wife. Amazingly, she finds strength and love from an unlikely source, the family s drunken maid. After a while, she proves to be far more intelligent than Kerrick's other offspring and this makes her both seductive and dangerous.

Silence of the Nine is Flowers in the Attic meets The Coldest Winter Ever. Prepare yourself for a dark ride.

Mixed emotions

If I had to read it I would have re returned it. The book was very slow in the beginning I didn't understand where it was going but then when I got to nine and became interested I would recommend it but I would lend it I wouldn't have anyone to buy it thank you.

Ok book

The readers voice is awful.. This is such an emotional book and she showed none. As far as the author is concern the plot was good but it wasn't traditional because of the type of things going on within the family but it did keep my interest BUT THE READER'S voice is awful..

Strong start...

The narration was monotone. She would say someone exclaimed but her voice remained flat, no inflection, nothing. I nearly fell asleep. I thought this book was going to be really good but I was left disappointed. I was expecting something far more profound from Nine's character but all of it was weak. Kerrick's young life was disturbing yet interesting but the story never really left basic background. After you learned the background of the characters they never did anything other than exist as the story (and narrator) dragged on. So frustrated...

it was good until it got disgusting

why did the author have to ruin a perfectly good story with incest and sick stuff....i know it's fiction but it's not even realistic.
