About this listen

Violence finds its way to old Hollywood in the eleventh Josephine Tey mystery, perfect for fans of Rhys Bowen and Jacqueline Winspear.

September 1939, and the worries of war follow Josephine Tey to Hollywood, where a different sort of battle is raging on the set of Hitchcock’s Rebecca.

Then a shocking act of violence reawakens the shadows of the past, with consequences on both sides of the Atlantic, and Josephine and DCI Archie Penrose find themselves on a trail leading back to the house that inspired a young Daphne du Maurier—a trail that echoes Rebecca’s timeless themes of obsession, jealousy, and murder.

I’ve been waiting for this book forever, it seems. I adore the series, I am a huge Hitchcock fan, and Rebecca is one of my favorite books ever. The author almost completely pulls off this ambitious story. In the end, it felt just a bit too short and a bit rushed. But that is nitpicking. I rounded up my overall 4.5 stars to 5 stars because it is still a great book. The narrator, Helen Lloyd, was absolutely fantastic. Highly recommended.

An ambitious story that fell just short of the mark

Really good book. Beautifully crafted characters, complicated and a bit unbelievable, but highly recommended for long hours of enjoyment.

Fantastic story

I loved thr book, Audible production, and well-done the Jospephine Tey work. Upton's narration provides a remarkable rendition of the characters central to the telling. I am grateful for her continued narration of the books, nit always followed by other authors or publishers. My only concern is for the short length of the production. I'd prefer a longer listen of the tale and it's characters.

Great tale, writing, and characters
